@JohnnoS: Err, double-check your model & S/N, because that's the device ID of a 3G Kindle Touch, not a PW/PW2. :?

Hi!
Few months ago i created a specific named directory on my PW to stop auto firmware updates. (maybe: update.bin.tmp.partial)Some guys helped my on IRC. Thanks to you pals. It was cool until tomorrow. My PW updated itself and now it has 5.3.9 firmware. Im only used the hypenation and custom margins. So it has a jailbreak, but the new update is canceled these mods. What is the easiest and safest mode to i can use the hypenation and custom margins again? I used the ixtab's JBpatch and Kindlet. I tried to reinstall Kindlet, but it was unsuccesful. When i started the JBPatch, its said "JBPatch is not installed", but JBPatch not supported this fimrware. I don't like to make a brick from my PW. What should i do? Thanks Last edited by moonster; 12-10-2013 at 11:36 AM. |

@moonster: Double posting is evil. You've been warned.
That said, look at the JBPatch thread, check the latest FW version the patches you're interested in support, and downgrade to that FW version (and block updates, either through BDL or some other means). |

@senseysensor: This model is supported, you must have missed something (unpacking the zip archive?). Double check the first post again

After updating my PW2 with the newest jailbrake, when i try to connect to root via putty ssh it now wants a specific pass. I've tried mario, K 5, fionae07b, fionae07 and leaving it blankIs there an easy fix for this?

did you try telnet (no password) over usb instead of ssh? then you can set the pass to anything you want. good luck!

I have no experience with telnet and I don't know the commands to connect to and change the password on my kindle via telnet. So I haven't tried it.

Full Linux (like other *nix based systems) distribution have manuals installed. Embedded systems usually do not. Web search engines also recognize the man(ual) command: So in either a full Linux install or in a web search engine, enter: man telnet and: man passwd The goal is to have everything documented. There are 8 levels of manuals, nearly everything is. - - - - TL;DR ? If kindle IP == 198.162.1.244 then: telnet 198.162.1.244 |

@yubangcun: While the 90s prefix was missing from the wiki, this model is supported, so you're probably missing something (unpacking the zip file?).
@steff8000: The jailbreak has nothing to do whatsoever with SSH. That's USBNetwork's job. So, be more precise. (As was mentioned, USBNetwork's default config doesn't care about the password. Read the doc again for more details). |

Success! Thank you!
I don't seem to be able to install custom fonts the old way. Any advice? |
