Pity as i love the aura but if it has gone wrong after 90 days that not good. Also if it has to be sent away could be weeks before i get it back. I have tried various hard reset suggestions using buttons etc on here but wonder if anyone has had problems and found a solution.
Having come from sony with solid but outdated readers to kobo with great reader but many problems i suppose i may have to cave in and go to Kindle if this can't be fixed easily
Pretty much my situation.
After 2.10->3.1(I updated the same time) my Glo went berserk and totally meshed my kepubs. Then it went dead.
Thankfully I was able to hardware reset it.

For me,it's the last straw.I have had to factory reset it three times in two months, always after an update.
I have had a Cybook and a Sony, none of witch had so many firmware problems.
Tomorrow I'll buy a PW2 from the local Saturn, hopefully it'll be better than the kobo.
If only the Sony actually made a decent frontlight ereader.

Kobo support response to 3.1.0 vertical-spacing CSS bug

I opened a support ticket for the problem with 3.1.0 removing all vertical spacing between elements in .kepub.epub ebooks rendered by Kobo's ACCESSS renderer. The boilerplate response pissed me off:

Quote:
Thanks for suggesting your new feature. We at Kobo appreciate your feedback and we’re always looking for ways to improve our service and features of devices.

Your suggestion will be forwarded to the Kobo Development Team for consideration.
Moments later, I received a survey from Kobo about the quality of their customer care. I responsed thusly (and also responded with this to the tech support guy):

Quote:
I submitted a bug report -- firmware 3.1.0 removes all vertical spacing between elements, making .kepub.epub ebooks that previously rendered properly via the ACCESS rendering engine look atrocious. Instead of acknowledging this, and escalating, your response said "Thanks for suggesting your new feature."

In other words, my bug report wasn't properly read, wasn't coded correctly for follow-up, and wasn't forwarded to the programmers.

I provided screen shots, a list of sample books that clearly demonstrated the problem, and more. Your response was wholly and completely insufficient and inappropriate, and the problem is NOT resolved. The .kepub.epub books still look awful.
Sheesh.

Now that I'm running 3.1.0, I side loaded a book.

In the first instance, the Glo insisted that it had DRM and couldn't be read on the machine. Some mucking about in Sigil cleared that up (I think I changed the book id).

Then the Glo had issues with the cover image. It wouldn't display the thumbnail (it displayed a blank). It would display the image during sleep. Then, it lost the sleep image (displaying the title). Then, when I finished the book, it displayed the thumbnail.

I spoke to customer service this morning regarding my aura frezing after update. They then Sent email requesting pictures of my reader. I sent pictures. I have now received a response. " they are sorry but they have no further info regarding cases for aura"
What has happened is that the guy this morning tagged this new problem into a request for info i made a while ago about cases. Even though there are two separate incident numbers and the email to me requesting pictures the girl replying tonight has ignored all this. This has not stated well

Does this latest update reduce the Glo's minimum light setting? I have read that some folks think the lowest setting is still too bright when reading in a dark room. I just wonder if that was addressed by Kobo in this latest update (or ever).

It was addressed several firmware versions ago.

I noticed that too! Someone forgot to update the (minimalistic) change log.

Here, my device is not connecting -- or claiming to not connect -- to an Apple router. I suspect that it really does connect because i can sometimes see the page i try to access behind the "connection failed try again message". It refuses to remember the network or password, which results in all sorts of tedium.

Hi everyone,

one question: Since the Pocket management page was removed, how do you log into a pocket account? I don't have anything related to Pocket anymore on my Kobo Glo 3.1.0?

All the accounts have been collected on the "Accounts" page. The Pocket account is second in the list. And if you haven't logged in to Pocket, the first time you try to open the Pocket articles, you will be prompted.

Hey, I've just noticed another step backwards although I don't care about it because I use a SleepCover.

Sleep image cover options have been removed and, more important, this feature seems totaly broken. I get just an empty rectangle which looks like a place holder for the real Cover. Tested even with a true Kobo official Kepub.

I've been following this thread but I can honestly say I don't have any of the issues reported here on my Kobo Aura after upgrading to 3.1. I side load my books through Calibre, I don't read Kobo epubs. I even have the sleepcover showing fine.

The only real problem I have with 3.1.0 is the vertical spacing issues in the kepub formatting, and I guess the "add a book" first time experience tile that keeps appearing after I sync is a bit annoying.

But wifi, sleep covers, sideloading, and everything else is working great.

Hi all,
I actually wasn't aware of any problems with the 3.1.0 firmware I just updated and everything was fine (but then, I just continued reading the book I was reading before and haven't tried anything out of the ordinary yet).

That's a Kobo Glo with a side loaded book with a side loaded font (I do all my reading on Ubuntu because it's so damn comfy).

I'll see later on if I can reproduce any of the problems you guys are experiencing...

I have the impression that bootup time's decreased. Anyone else notice this?
