Interesting about the snap parts on the PW and no glue. My PW1, the one I kept after 2 replacements always had the frame stick up. Not towards the screen, but at the edge right where it meets that rubbery frame thingy. Its mostly on the top all across more pronounced on the top right and some on the right side down from the top. When slightly pressed it moves down flat, but springs right back up. Not sure if I am explaining this right. I always assumed there wasn't enough glue underneath so its elevated on the edge.
But I can say that it has never gotten worse, it stayed exactly the same for a year now. And this is with putting it in and out of the original amazon cover which is a bit of a pain its so tight. I have read it without any cover for like 3 months and also used a cover with corner elastics. None of this had any effect on that frame. My K3 has a squeaky back and a crack and it still works fine after how many years now? I got it when it first came out. |

Hi SubElement and other members, My first Kindle Paperwhite 2 is in perfect condition and I gave it to my niece as a birthday gift. I received my second one for 5 minutes ago in Melbourne and I saw three pin holes. I contacted the CS and now they are sending me a new one. Yay1 Last edited by mylinh; 10-24-2013 at 09:24 PM. My Paperwhite arrived today. Looks great to me. There is a small bright patch (light leak) in the bottom right corner that is only noticeable at medium light settings and I'll probably stop noticing it after a few days.
The only issue I'm having is that the font setting I used on my Kindle Keyboard falls between two fonts on the Paperwhite, so I'll have to adapt and either use a smaller or larger font. With the increased contrast I can probably get away with the smaller font. |

I received two PW2s a week ago, and they were both perfect: screen, bezel, the back, everything.
I already own a K3 and several K4s, and I am amazed at how white the PW2 screens are; and there are no shadows, colour casts or pinholes anywhere. Just lucky, I guess. |

I could do with the vocabulary builder so still on the fence about trying a third time but I'm going to wait and see what updates Amazon provide for the PW1 first. On the UK site under Kindle Paperwhite (we only have one listing under software updates for the Paperwhite) it says 'Coming Soon'

I'm playing the replacement game and I didn't buy a PW2. *sigh* My HDX brightness is buggy so they are sending another one. So you see it's just not the PW2 that have some issues.
I'm still on the fence one minute I think maybe then I think why do I need it when my PW1 has not let me down. If I bought a PW2 I would have to embed my fonts and that makes more work. I am learning KF8 books are PITA! I love old mobi best! |

I never knew switching to the new format would take so much tweaking and work. Ugh! I am buried in Style Sheets. It seems alot of publishers don't know how to make font sizes ereader friendly. It's either too big or too small or the line height wont change. I do a convert to old mobi and the problems are immediately solved but doing old mobi to KF8 works okay but the cover refuses to show. ![]() |

I use the stock Helvetica font on my PW 2012, PW 2013, HD 2012 and HDX 2013. I find it dark and thick enough to read clearly.
Frankly, I don't understand why so many folks here are even using Calibre. I don't use it at all and my Amazon eBooks work just fine. Its possible that Calibre is causing its own problems and wasting lots and lots of time for too many users. |

Yeah, it was just uneven ambient lighting in the room; just laziness on my part. But still good enough to show how the screens look side by side. Both of the logos look pretty much the same.

I buy the majority of my books from Amazon, but every book on my Kindle is loaded via Calibre. Like you, I'd be lost without it.

What are the advantages of using Calibre?

I only buy my eBooks from Amazon and cannot understand why they may need Calibre processing. I use the vanilla Helvetica font and couldn't imagine using anything better. |
