Fixed it right up. I can't see any seams on the Kindle and I'm not sure I want to do that regardless on a brand-new device... The indecision is killing me.
I know what you mean, it's really a tough call, especially if you're happy with your unit and it has no screen problems. My instinct was not to keep mine, but I really don't know if it would have ended up being a problem or not down the road. I'm hesitant to advise, especially since you are happy with yours. I suppose you could try another one and hold on to your current unit that way you aren't risking anything?

Anyone have any advice for Alan? Do you all think such an issue could turn into a problem down the road?

I had two early model K3s and they both squeaked a little bit. I think that was a K3 issue as I recall. I didn't get either replaced and both never had any issues other than squeaking a bit. My sister still uses one of them all these years later.

Here's a comparison shot to show the difference in screen color with my PW1 and PW2. I find the warmer color on the PW2 (right) to be quite an improvement in low light.

That's exactly what I did. Called Amazon & they're shipping out a new one; I have 30 days to return the old one. They were incredibly nice about it all, too. Sony doesn't have customer support this good! Anyway, thanks for the advice, all!

My PW1 does this on the top corners of the screen if held down. It hasn't worsen over time but I don't hold that area long just when I am cleaning the screen.

That's interesting that yours does it too, Blossom. I didn't know if it was common or not. The thing that concerned me about it is that it didn't seem like it was properly glued together. Good to know it hasn't become worse over time.

Yeah I think it's normal just an airpocket not a glue issue.

But why is the printed "Kindle" darker on the right frame than on the left frame? It looks the same onmy PW1 and PW1. Maybe the difference is only due to the camera setting?

The PW isn't glued together - it has "snap" fastenings. The only Kindle that is glued, to the best of my knowledge, is the Basic Kindle (aka K4).

Received mine 2 days ago. I've previously owned kindle touch which has been stolen from me unfortunately, and I can say it's a great improvement since then. Kindle is faster, thinner though I guess a bit heavier, lighting is pretty even, captative touch technology is fast and accurate. If there's anything you want to ask, go on! ;-)

The Kindle logo on Paperwhites is somewhat reflective, probably just a function of part of the photo reflecting some ambient light more than the other - or camera angle hitting one of the Kindle logos just right.

That said, in my PW1 vs. PW2 comparison (my review here) I noted that the Kindle logo is printed somewhat differently on PW2. Depending on how light shone on the devices I noted one of them looking brighter than the other, so the color may also be different, but also the size/boldness of the logo a little different.

Also the size of the Kindle logo print in the packaging has changes PW1 vs. PW2 (and of course the rear logo on the device itself dramatically changed).

The PWs are built differently from the old K3s, I think! The K3 uses a lot of glue and would come loose around the inside of the bezel near the screen, and then squeak. The K3 was also a magnet for cat hair/fur as some of the glue would leave a sticky trail around the bezel. Every time one of cats got near my K3, the K3 started looking like a fuzzy hairball. Fortunately the PWs don't that.

My replacement pw2 came. No pin hole. Only faint blob in center. Most even light of PWs I've seen. But omg the screen is even yellower and greener than my first. Text is same. Default fonts too light and gray for me so it's not readable without my embedded font.

Too bad computer fan clubs are dead IRL. I need to find somebody with a perfect beige screen but likes yellow screen and swap

That sounds a lot like mine, except yellowish or blueish depending on room lighting. I've got the slightly darker middle of the screen shadow or blob, but it isn't too bad. The text does require bolding or embedding of fonts.
