Had this on two different aura hd's. Totally sucks, until you figure out that tapping the text at the top usually solves it. Frustrating.

If its solved, and it exists in 2.8.1 as well it is not resolved in the 2.9.0 firmware as yet. Someone had mentioned that they were beta testing 2.9.4 so it would seem they have some issues they are working on to skip 4 potential releases so fingers crossed the release they release has most issues resolved. And we may not know till its been in the Wild for a bit.

I seem to recall that many of the complaints about this were from people using epubs converted to kepubs by jgoguen's Calibre plugin. I haven't seen that issue on any of my Kobo readers but the only kepubs I read are those I purchased from Kobo so a limited number of books.

David

If you check the patcher forum, there are modified configuration files for the patcher for 2.9.0. All the functions of Metazoa's original 2.8.1 patcher are not implemented but the footer, font size, line spacing, margin size and brightness control are included.

See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=249 for the post with the modified configuration file.

Looking at what was done with 2.6.2 and 2.8.1b, it's going to be harder in the future to modify the behaviour of a Kobo ereader.

1. http://download.kobobooks.com/firmwa...date-2.9.0.zip

2. Make sure your Aura HD is 2.81
3. Unzip and drop only the .tgz file into the
.kobo directory.
4. Disconnect the reader and let it update.
5. Don't brick your reader!

Thats great, I just upgraded to 2.9 on my Aura HD and Pocket is working beautifully, I am not sure at this stage if their are other advantages to the upgrade.

The only thing I noticed was that prior to the upgrade my battery was at 26% and 52% after, as I was only connected to the laptop for a couple of minutes I don't think the recharge occurred then, perhaps the battery meter is now more (less?) accurate.

Anway so far so good, thanks all.

Thank you Canuck. And though I've upgraded the Glo just now, I've already noted another big advantage of this version, the return button bottom left - at long last, what I've missed since I dropped Sony for Kobo. Now that I've tested on the Glo (nowadays just a spare weel + upgrades tester) I'll upgrade the Aura HD which should suit Pocket better.

Has anyone told Murg Of this link as of the time of this comment, there is no update to the developers corner for the Kobo Aura download link for this firmware.

Thank you, Canuck!

The freeze on blank page bug is actually worse; it now takes two taps on the top menu bar instead of one. Hope that won't carry forward, that it is just some result of using FW that isn't a proper fit for my GLO.

FINALLY! The Kobo Nickel font is usable. No longer does it leave every other page half empty. Awesome!

I like the "return to library button", but foresee some amount of uproar because it takes the place of the "% finished and link to reading stats" in the bottom bar. Perhaps it will come back in time for the final version. % finished is now in the top bar, which is fine, but it doesn't link to reading stats. Are they gone for good?

Pocket seems fine. Will it autoupdate even when sleeping?

The device will autoupdate ONCE per day if: you leave wifi on, you activate the autoupdate feature in the settings. Exact time it updates will vary depending on setting and a random factor so they don't all call home at once. Setting options include night, morning, afternoon and evening. If you add something to pocket on your computer it won't automatically add it to your Kobo until you sync (auto or manual sync).

Blame me for that as my preference was not to have that link publicly posted as it is a release for the Aura (kobo5) and if you do not use only the KoboRoot.tgz file, the results are not good. There are also several issues which, hopefully, will be solved by whenever the next firmware release happens.

David
