PRS-T3S....
Does it mean that Sony could release PRS-T3L (L stands for front light)? |

Got one for 99 EUR in Germany, it has a back cover and is preconfigured with ebook.de as shop. Given that my previous reader is a PRS-500 the improvement is just striking. As I grow older I don't want to fiddle around with apps, conversion and stuff anymore and save time for reading. And for reading it's just wonderful. Well, the frontlight. So what. When I read in bed I fall asleep instantly. In a train or plane I have a seat light. What I really need is a good note feature for being able to create an index plus annotations for the book I'm reading. What I don't like is that the T3S has the microSD slot below the back cover. What I really like are the physical buttons. Feelies so to speak. Frontlight would have been a nice addon but I could not buy a Kindle for Amazon's epub boycott and monopoly policy. The Tolino Shine 2 was another candidate but right after the announcent at the Frankfurt bookfare that it will not happen I ordered my T3S.

Hansl,
Thanks for the backcover confirmation. I would not necessarily say that Amazon "boycott" ePub , and I am not sure what that monopoly policy is about, but since you have been using a Sony already and like the way Sony and ebook.de operate, congrats to your new Sony reader ![]() |

Xendula,
thanks for the congrats. Well, maybe "unwilling to support" sounds more friendly. That's about the DRM binding the Kindle to a single bookstore. And together with the "unwillingness to support" epub you cannot legally transfer DRMed epubs to a Kindle and read them. Adobe of course also limits your choices since not each ebook reader supports their DRM, but my reader does and there are many more than one bookstores which support it. On the unDRMed side im aware the you could convert if necessary. But that's something I want to avoid. BTW I downloaded my first DRMless epub from mobileread to my T3S directly. Just without any intermediate step. So, you might say, customers may choose between Amazon and other bookstores, they only need to select the right hardware. Where is the monopoly? Good point, but I didn't claim that the monopoly is implemented ![]() So, you are probably right. Try to imagine what Adobe would have done if they had had a giant online store as backing. ^ At least in the US, you can buy kindle books at other online sites, I just don't because I like Amazon and I find that in the genres I read, Amazon offers the best prices when I check on luzme.com. Of course, with the German fixed book pricing law, this would not be the case over there
![]() Maybe that's why Sony didn't even bother seling the T3 over here...? ETA: Adobe selling books vs. only offering the DRM - I shudder at the thought of it; I already hate them with a passion! |

A small addition:
I recommend to not remove the backcover often, as it is fixed only with a few short plastic tongues to the reader, which could get worn through heavy use. hansl |
