I'm in The Netherlands so have no idea if it will still be free to return? And if it will be a big hassle. That's the only reason I am considering canceling it, otherwise i would let it go through to see what I get.

Yes, it'll still be free for you to return it. Just print the return label, stick it on the box the Kindle came in, and drop it off at the Post Office. No hassle. No cost.

You don't pay costs for a Kindle that you don't like the screen of. That is a defect in Amazon's view.

Well it is certainly a defect if the screen isn't whiter and the text darker than the PW1.

From the Amazon PW2 webpage:

IMPROVED – Enjoy even better contrast on the latest Kindle Paperwhite. Whites are whiter and blacks are blacker, creating sharp, clear text

Ha! The whites were definitely not whiter on my PW2.

I've cancelled my order now anyway, but if I did get one I wanted to return as I didn't like the screen i'd simply mark it as faulty when I selected the reason for return. That way Amazon pay the return postage

They took back my 3rd PW1 last year without charging me a return shipping fee. But like others have stated, that is because I told them the screen was bad and I didn't want to get any more replacements. The key is to make sure they know the screen is bad, or that it has some kind of defect. If you forget to tell them that they will charge you for the return shipping.

When I was considering returning my PW1 I chatted to an Amazon guy and he initiated return process for me even though I didn't ask for it. He knew full well I had a good item only considering returning and getting PW2 (I was within the 30 day return period then) but he did put description as "faulty". So anyway here goes: you print return label, stick it on and deliver it to your nearest UPS drop off centre. Not post office. I'm in Belgium so for NL will be the same thing. That guy said that if I don't decide to return I can just ignore the return process. Which I did in the end.

You can always chat online to someone and make sure. But from Belgium it goes back to USA, and not by post office, which is not as handy as for people who have Amazon in their countries, UK, Spain etc. If I tried to bring Amazon label on package here to Belgian post office and demand free sending they'd call a doctor.

The return instructions will tell you who to return it to. In the UK, it's sometimes the post office and it's sometimes the people who operate Amazon's "locker" service. Just do what Amazon tell you.

Agreed. In my case it was Hebron, USA via UPS drop off centre.

Well there goes already..I have no way of getting to a nearest UPS drop off as that would be far away from where I live and I don't have a car, so returning it would be out of the question already.

Wouldn't UPS pick it up if you made arrangements?

First chat to Amazon people even before ordering to make sure, and as Harry said follow Amazon instructions. I risked twice, ordered K3 and PW1, had no reason to return either.

Or buy one at Waterstones (there is one in Amsterdam so I hear) but that's extra 20€ or so. I am going to have a first hand experience soon at Waterstones in Brussels
