Hmmm... That's unexpected, and the first such report. Can you do the entire procedure again, post here (or better: in the Kubrick thread) exactly which options you chose, and a photo of the screen with the failure?

(I'll post in the other thread too, but as an update)
Yeah quite weird. I finally gave in and wiped the main partition, let my kindle update all the way back 5.3.7, tried again, got through the steps Selected K touch told it to not wipe main partition, and just to jailbreak Didn't add the other two options. FAIL again. Oddly (to me at least) it also when it fails traps me in diag mode as far as I can tell. had to repeat, re-wipe main partition and let it update back up to 5.3.7 very weird. I'll post in the Kubrick thread too so it's there. Thanks! |

The Kindle will connect via USB mode, and the update_kindlet-jailbreak-20121029_install.bin installer file is gone (it also had an installation success screen pop up) so apparently it at least attempted to install the Kindlet jailbreak... If I flash the main partition, will it completely destroy my collections and files? If I can't fix this, I'm going to have to... :S I loooove that Collection Manager and I'm not wanting to give it up... I at least back up the books etc. via rsync, but will my collections from the Manager be completely gone if I flash it? Last edited by mobilis; 09-10-2013 at 01:26 AM. |

OOokay, I reconnected the Kindle to my comp and on the basis of this tip, I deleted a file called
USBnet.xml that I found in the main root of the drive. Then I disconnected and pressed down the power button for a long time to get the Kindle to reboot (it took a while/a few tries for this to work!) Now it works fine and the Collection Manager is working, too. jwilker, hook your Kindle up to a computer and if there are any .XML files in the main root of the drive, MOVE them onto the computer (you know, just in case- safer than deleting!) then try powering down and rebooting the Kindle. It might work, and it would be safer/easier than redoing the whole thing. |

ssh password not working
Hi,
I've followed the instructions on this thread, updated my kindle touch to FW 5.3.7, reinstalled the jailbreak. I am trying to ssh to my device, but I just get 'access denied'. I tried:
but all failed. I tried ssh both over wifi and over usb. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Similar by searching the forum:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=216838 Did you read the usbnet readme file? It discusses telnetting in without a password as long as wifi is not turned on. |

Is there someplace where a comparison between different FW versions is listed? I took a quick look in the wiki, but didn't see anything.
I'm currently running 5.1.2 (from Kubrick) and was wondering what I would gain by upgrading to some other version. Thanks! |

5.3.2.1 What you would lose: JBPatch customize reader font sizes patch JBPatch progress bar patch (switch between default, graphical progress bar like K3, chapter progress bar and default display+page number with an added % button next to the Aa button during reading). This is really, really nice, especially the chapter progress bar with novels that have long chapters JBPatch TTS in languages other than English JBPatch enable inverted portrait orientation JBPatch modified collection count behaviour (option to show number of all items in collection for nested collections, not just the "sub-collections") What you would gain: Cover view (but JBPatch with 5.1.2 already has it. And unlike 5.3.2.1, 5.1.2 cover view doesn't behave strangely when using the back button with nested collections) Reflow with pdf Time to read (Personally, I very much prefer the graphical display available with 5.1.2 JBPatched) Whispersync to synchronize ebook with audible book 5.3.7 Haven't tried myself because you lose the complete JBPatch (and for me the hyphenation and dictionary patches are essential, without these I would sell my Kindle Touch). What's interesting with 5.3.7 is that you supposedly see the fully formatted definition of a word in the pop-up window when you look it up in the dictionary (rather than the 4 lines with formatting removed in previous firmwares). |

My only excuse is that I've been busy rebuilding my PW after an unblocked update and reinstalling stuff on a new Touch. I've been more interested in prerequisites than reading all the details. Here's a link to ixtab's feelings on the versions supported. Thanks for doing the work for me. ![]() |

I can live without some jbpatch features but not without the hypenation feature. How do I downgrade to 5.3.2.1? Should I use kubrick, accept 5.1.2 installation and then manually install Update_kindle_5.3.2.1.bin from Amazon? Will I lose files on my kindle during this process? Thank you |

Thank you for your very fast reply! Should I delete some JBpatch or Jailbreak leftover from the previous installation before the new installation?
