Just tried using the Screenshots option and got these results before and after. It did trigger off the power key so no sleep or power off unless I remove the option.

I was able to reproduce it with a purchased kepub, so I reported it to Kobo with a link to the book. The book is http://www.kobobooks.com/ebook/Child...RfA/page1.html.

What I find odd is that after a power cycle, the annotations are removed or orphaned.
That is my main use of annotations as well. But my practice is to delete them as I fix them. At one stage you cold select them when reading and delete from the bottom menu. That was better when there were a few on a page.

I don't normally read from the SD card, but occasionally do if I know there is going to be a lot of editing. I'll try one and have a look at the database.

I'll give that a try the next time I edit an epub without changing the file structure or TOC. I'm just editing the data fairly often so worth trying.
I generally put it on the device, read and mark the errors. Then I fix in Sigil and make sure the TOC and file structure is what I want. Then I do the delete and send. After that, I can replace it without a problem. If I suspect the book will have problems, I do the TOC and files structure first.

Looking at the screenshots and thinking back, I have seen something like that. But, usually I have non-book tiles as well so it isn't as noticeable. The Sync tile is the one I see as I have the DB trigger getting rid of it.

I hadn't realised there is a difference between the tiles on the Glo and AuraHD. The Glo displays the text below the cover and it doesn't include the time remaining except on for the current book.

But what I am most intrigued by is what embarrassing book happened to be in the middle of the library tile Personally, I would have hidden "Sense and Sensibility".

In the .kobo directory, open the Kobo eReader.conf file -- I prefer to use Notepad++ since it does not modify the Unix linefeed only end of line marker.
If you don't see a [FeatureSettings] header, add it and then add Screenshots=true below that header.

You can now use the power button to take a screenshot. However, this means you can't put the ereader to sleep or power it off using the switch until you remove the setting (or change it to Screenshots=false).

The screenshots will show up as sequentially numbered .png files in the root of the FAT32 partition.

I noted the item when browsing through one of the libnickel files and played with it for a bit.

Useful for screenshots but a pain in the posterior when you don't need screenshots.

David

Maybe I need a brief explanation of the options

The ePub manifest is a list of all files that are officially part of the book. This implies that it's supposed to be safe to remove any file that isn't in the manifest, because all files are supposed to get added to the manifest. However, some operating-specific files may get added without being added to the manifest. Notably, OS X stores a .DS_Store file just about everywhere, and some readers may drop bookmark or other status files without updating the manifest. It's not an error to have files not in the manifest, but it's not technically correct; usually this option doesn't change anything, not many books I've seen have files not in the manifest, but it may lead to smaller books and there were a few books I tried where the size difference was large relative to the size of the book.

Cleaning up ePub markup is, in my opinion, a good idea. What it will do, for every content file, is:
  • Replace the Unicode versions of the en-dash and em-dash with three or two dashes, respectively.
  • Remove empty header tags
  • Remove Unicode replacement characters (they look like )
  • Remove cruft from any Microsoft applications that may have been involved in creating the ePub content
Depending on your source book, this may not change much (or anything) but this option I would recommend people use.

Blocking the Analytics DB is really up to your own personal preference and what you're comfortable with. I think, and maybe I'm wrong, that this DB table stores events for sending to Google Analytics when the Kobo device is connected to the Internet. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=162713 for an outline, but the thread is old now and may be outdated. If I'm right about the purpose of this DB table, blocking entries from going to it will prevent any analytics data from going to Kobo through Google Analytics since the device will always think there's no analytics to report!

The one in the middle of the library tile was Wen Spencer's For Blue Sky which is a free read which I downloaded and converted to an .epub for convenience. Unfortunately, I was having a snarky moment when I generated the cover. I'd try to claim I was simply following the cover artists who seems to believe that Tinker is an over-endowed bubblehead but (attempted look of innocence that wouldn't fool a grasshopper) don't think anyone would believe that.

At least it was "Sense and Sensibility" and not "The Masqueraders". My wife is a Georgette Heyer fan.

What that you were trying to make a cover that accurately depicted characters from a book? I'd buy that. But, the choice of character and I suspect dress, might be suspect.

I've done that a couple of times. When I got the first of the Barsoom books, I went looking for the most lurid cover I could find. It just suited my mood at the time

That I understand. My wife read both Austen and Heyer. She has a tendency to pick one up, read a bit and put it down somewhere. Sometimes it feels like the house is covered in them. And I shudder to think what she has on her Touch.

I had quick play with the bookmarks. With the firmware I am running, the bookmarks were deleted from the database when I deleted the book using the GUI. But calibre isn't deleting them. Putting the book back on the device picked up the bookmarks. Powering off didn't affect this. Can you do a check on your database? A corrupt bookmark table might explain this.

Eeyup. It seems funny at the time. If you have a few seconds, take a look at the cover for Elfhome. Neither Tinker nor Impatience (the dragon -- at least I was assuming that it was supposed to be Impatience) look at all like the image of them I get from the books. Heck, Impatience isn't even the right colour.

Hmmm... I agree. I don't want to think about what my wife has on her Glo. Austen and Heyer I don't mind. From her descriptions, her newer "lovie-doves" as she refers to them should come with plain brown wrappers. I will admit to liking some of Jane Austen's books. On yet another hand, I also have "A Vindication of the Rights of Women" from around the same era.

I'll check that when I get the chance. I've moved a lot of books on and off in the last couple of weeks and haven't done a factory reset which I probably should have done after trying to trigger the disconnect issue.

Don't know if this was a bug with previous versions, but in 2.8.1 on Aura HD, all annotations show as "Chapter one", even when all annotations are in later chapters.

That is a known bug that has been around for a long time. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=211603 for a discussion on the bookmark/annotations bugs. The thread is about 2.5.1, but they are all still in 2.8.1.

I was trying the CSS driver change, and kept deleting the book, both through calibre and the kobo mini, the book would reopen at the last place it was even though I deleted it every time before adding it again. 2.8.1

How are you deleting it? Calibre, through the OS or the device GUI? Calibre and the device should remove the current position.
