Actually that was only in the movie version of Misery. She used something else to hobble him in the book.

I don't have one favourite author but I find myself following several different series and then hoarding books on my TBR list (yes, I know there is a separate thread for this but I am still in denial). I know when I have read them I just want more NOW! I think the worst wait was for the latest Thraxas book - For a couple of years it didn't look like it was going to be published. I have 2 Kevin Hearne books to read but I am waiting for the one published at the end of the Month before I start to read them.
But for the moment I am currently re-reading my Thraxas books (Martin Scott aka Martin Millar) before I read the latest one.

It is a long time since I read the book, but I thought she used the sledge hammer on his ankle THEN when he escaped she cut it off, again it is a very long time since I read it

If I agreed with this thought, it would be eerily meta, since my favorite author is Stephen King. Fortunately I don't obsess at all about authors - I'm just happy to read their books

And since you brought it up, GRRM also is one of my favorite (but to be honest I didn't enjoy A Dance with Dragons very much).

No, they're almost certainly talking about mobileread.com. I see the same behavior you describe using the mobile edition of the site. I actually forgot there WAS a mobile edition of the site 'til you mentioned it. Even so, I think you'd have to try pretty hard to skip past the red warning and the significant whitespace before the actual spoiler.

Pretty hard to come up with a fool-proof spoiler function on a site that purposely avoids using any scripts or images to keep things as lean as possible.

I lost an author who used to be a favourite because of this. Used to think some of the ideas in his books were ironic, sarcastic, generally madcap and taking the mick a bit. It turns out I was wrong. <shrug>
