Calibre crashing when I try to access my k2i
I'm running Calibre 0.9.28 and I'm accessing (or trying to access my Kindle 2 (international). I can also see all the directories and books if I use windows explorer (I'm on Win 7).
I'll admit I haven't used Calibre for a while but I connected the Kindle and Calibre recognised the device and started to download all the book names etc. It takes quite a while and then it just crashes. I suspected the Kindle might be full and deleted a few books from it but I had the same problem. I also tried restarting the Kindle (hold power slide for 20 secs and then leave it for a while) but again had the same issue. Windows also came up with a box saying "Do you want to scan and fix?" the kindle but I rescanned and it found no issues. Any ideas? Mike |

Update calibre or got to Preferences->Plugins and disable the pdf metadata reader plugin.

I tried disabling the pdf metadata reader plugin but Calibre still crashed when it tried getting the list of books on my Kindle. I'll try updating Calibre with the latest version next.
I am seeing a few weird things though: a) on Calibre a number of the books aren't showing the proper names - actually they mostly appear to be PDF's so perhaps that's explained. b) on the kindle I'm not seeing my latest book (mobi) appearing at the top of the list. I can find it if I order by book title and then page through - doing this is a pain though. Thank you for helping me! Mike |

I clicked the debug button when it crashed this time and it showed "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in calibre.exe [1916]". It's odd that it's showing win32 because my OS is 64 bit and I downloaded the 64 bit version of calibre.
Would it help if I reset my kindle back to it's factory settings and then reloaded books? (Not sure how to reset the kindle though). Still odd that Calibre is showing file names for various books (mostly pdf's). Mike |

I was using the latest version of Calibre 9.33. The PDF metadata was turned back on. The crashing was not random but happened after the Kindle (2i) was plugged in and at the point it was nearly finishing reading book data from the Kindle. Would resetting the K2i to it's factory defaults help?

There's no harm in trying.

It reset to factory fine though oddly it remembered who I was etc. I can reload all the books I bought from Amazon (one by one). I still can't move any books from my library to the Kindle using Calibre though
![]() Could it be the USB cable? It does charge fine over the cable and I can access the Kindle via explorer so I'll admit this seems unlikely. Can I side load my collection using email (I've never tried this and I'm a bit unsure whether this is only for Amazon books)? Last edited by mike_bike_kite; 06-06-2013 at 01:21 PM. |
