I bought several hardcover books as gifts for my daughter last October and recently purchased paperback editions of my husband's books for family and friends. Other than those, I can't remember when I last bought paper books. My last ebook purchase was about three weeks ago.

Unless it's a pretty edition, I prefer novels in ebook format. As for other books I prefer buying the real ones. As for mangas, I also prefer buying real mangas. Anyway, I bought my Kobo to read novels on it, not to read other types of books. When I did the cleaning of my novels after buying my Kobo, I kept the ones I could not find in ebook format and the pretty editions like this one:

I think it was in March, when I got Tanith Low in the Maleficent Seven - the Skulduggery Pleasant books are the only ones at this time I actually collect in both hardback and paperback + buy the ebooks for the actual reading.

The last one before that was JK Rowling's The Casual Vacancy last autumn, as the ebook was more expensive at the time than importing the hardback.

Since I started e-reading, I've been buying maybe 4-5 paper books a year - the ones I collect + the occasional book that I really want to read but that isn't available as ebook or uses footnotes extensively and is therefore more comfortable to read on paper.

Excluding gifts, couple of years ago. Excluding research/technical books, it's likely over 15 years.

I spend more on ebooks than I ever did on paper books though (again excluding the above that I still buy in paper). I'm just pickier now and buy cheaper ebooks, so although I think I'm spending more, I'm also getting more

Well, you handle a pBook with your hands and you read it with your eyes.

Bought two history books from Amazon last week and two mass trade paperbacks (fiction) at B&N day before yesterday.

Still will continue to buy physical books, especially non-fiction. Still enjoy the tactile quality of physical books. And some things just don't work that well in e-book format for me. For example: books with detailed maps, exhibition catalogs, most reference books, manga/graphic novels, etc. ...

I bought two paperbacks and one hardcover at B&N yesterday. The paperbacks were for my mother in law and the HC was for my wife, who just does not like ebooks at all. We're collecting the Penguin Drop Caps editions.

I have bought 2 in the last year. Neither was available as an ebook.

There should be a follow-up question here, however: have you read the books you bought?

In my case that would be "no". I find them far less convenient in terms of finding time and place to read them. So far it has not happened.

I haven't bought a pbook for ages.

But I DO regularly go to my local library and take out a book and if I like it, buy it in ebook format.
This is usually for reference books rather than novels though.

So I guess the fact that I took out that book at a library is registered somewhere and it's use noted.

text books are the only paper books this house buys. That is because my 19 year old twins are at uni and prefer their text books to be paper. They hate reading on their computers or tablets,a d think ebook readers are terrible for text books.

I just bought a Cookbook over the weekend. I'm also waiting for one from Amazon that I purchased last week.

Just bought a box full of books for a handful of dollars. Hurray for garage sales.
Before that, I bought a cookbook a few weeks back. Digital cookbooks simply aren't as useful.

With advice like that the poor chap is going to be perplexed when the book arrives.

For one thing, they will only read half the story if they don't realize that pbooks use both sides of the screen. Turning the page is quite difficult too. Tapping the page simply does not work, and the swipe gesture requires both more pressure and articulation.

The other thing is that a lot of features are actually add-ons, some of which can be quite expensive. Even basic things like bookmarks have to be bought separately. Ensure that you have a bookmark before opening a pbook for the first time, otherwise you'll have to remember the memory location where you left off the next time you sit down to read!

I buy video game guides in paper format, and I've bought a few of those in the past year and will be buying another soon.

I buy books for my kids all the time -- and one of them has a Kindle! Yesterday we went to Sam's Club and they got Dollar Origami: 10 Origami Projects Including the Amazing Koi Fish, Monsters University Big Golden Book, and Pinkalicious: The Pinkamazing Storybook Collection.

I can't remember the last time I bought a non-ebook book for myself. I still buy strategy guides at the same time that I buy the video games that I'm not playing. I'm a B&N Member, but I just buy kids books with it.
