Troubleshooting kindle 3 freezes

hello, my kindle 3 freezes often and when it does I just do not do anything. is that the screen is cracked or mainboard problem? thank you in advance

A cracked screen is usually obvious... Parts of the screen never change while others do... If occasionally it freezes up then that sounds more tricky to diagnose 100% (motherboard, memory, corrupted file system).

Kubrick (search here) might help with the corrupted filesystem.

I'd do a Factory Reset prior to mucking around with anything else. Could just be a corrupt book file.

... or a corrupt or excessively large "My Clippings.txt" file.

Also, are you using the latest firmware? Mine used to hang frequently, but has yet (touch wood!) since updating to the more recent releases (the last two).

Assuming the very worst: you could try to flash it clean again.
K3flasher and Kubrick both aim to simplify that task.

That would Rule Out "corrupted files".. but I have read at least 10+ reports of this "my kindle 3 just starts to freeze" so perhaps it is a manufacturing issue. I myself had one that did just that - which I sent back. Amazon did not quibble. I have no idea if it is still in warranty. If it is I would send it back immediately.

I then removed the kindle and my screen is intact so I do not know what has formatting. what is your opinion? thank you in advance

I think the mmc is failing.

I would flatten it using Kubrick or K3flasher. That would Rule Out "corrupted files".

I have no idea if it is still in warranty. If it is I would send it back immediately.

Unfortunately not I buy one years ago occasion. And now the directional button no longer works ... can be Kubrick or K3flasher will put my reading light ... but how to use functional Kubrick K3flasher gold?

If you mean "How do I use Kubrick" the instruction on on the thread.

It is sad that your kindle is slowly dying. Fortunately the replacement devices are becoming more and more affordable.
