I don't understand what you mean. A PW with no ads does display 8 titles per page on the home screen (in list view). What are you disappointed about?

In collection view, only 7 items are displayed on the home page, on a PW with SO.

Opening a collection, one will see 8 titles listed (and no SO bar).

I can see though how the $20 would be taxed if your PW got taxed. After all you are not paying for the ads to be removed, but you are paying the $20 towards the device that you got previously at a discount, different in funtionality. Who knows. What about books? Do you pay tax on books now too?

I'm not sure about ebooks, I can check. But on physical goods, yes.

No tax on the last .99 book I bought.

I never paid a cent tax to Amazon. Never paid anything on ebooks neither!
Most my ebooks are of the free kind on amazon.
