Oh my ... where to start ... where to start ....

There are too such things as "stupid boobs." Never met a boob that was particularly intelligent myself.

GREAT Indian restaurant in Austin. It's really beautiful inside too. Owned and managed by a friend of mine from the Punjab who's a Sikh. For some reason, that I can't for the life of me figure out, I have a lot of friends who are Sikhs.

I ended up having about half a pound of Hershey's Kisses and a can of Diet Decaf Doctor Pepper for dinner last night. The diet soda cancels out the calories in the chocolate ... so it's all good.

I may not be here much today. As I stated in another thread, I am facing a day of paint fumes and nothing much in the pantry again today. So, I'm likely going to have to drive allll the way into town ... (ugh) ... and get some groceries.

The high point will be the chocolate shake I am going to have for lunch. It is possible to get a really good chocolate shake ... you just have to force the people at the local take out places to make it properly.

I have to sign of very soon and go help my daughter in her classroom again. I hate it when life interferes with fun...

Get the perfect shake at a fast food place?? First, you find out if they have the necessary ingredients on the menu. Then, you purchase whatever you need to get those ingredients. Then, you instruct the employees on how to put it all together.

For example, let's take Wendy's. They have an item on the menu that is called a "Frosty Shake." The Frosty Shake is AWFUL ... it tastes like .... well, the taste is indescribably bad.

However, they also have a plain "Frosty" on the menu which is essentially very good soft serve ice cream. It only comes in vanilla and chocolate ... but since chocolate is what I need ... that's ok.

Then, they have chocolate milk on the menu ... again ... good.

So, I purchase a Frosty Shake and a chocolate milk. Then, I tell them that instead of having my shake made with vanilla Frosty and chocolate syrup (which is their usual way of doing things), I want them to pour about the same amount of chocolate milk into the glass and fill the rest with Chocolate Frosty. Then, spin it up as usual.

It makes for a really lovely chocolate shake.

I only had one Wendy's employee ever give me a hard time about making my shake the way I like it ... and I pulled out my cell phone and called Wendy's corporate offices right there and then and bitched about her inability to comply with what was a fairly simple request by a customer. She has had the sense to keep her mouth shut since then.

I make the character of Sally (from "When Harry Met Sally") look like one of the most reasonable people on the planet. No one will ever accuse me of being "low maintenance."

Sour cream? Really? What temp?
About 400 or so. Whatever your oven bakes best at. Cooking is art, not science. You'll want it to brown on top and pull away from the edges of the dish just a tad. It needs to be nice and wet in the middle, you know, stick in a knife and it comes out gooey. Otherwise, if you overbake it, you are just making fancy cornbread. Put some sort of meat on the side and it is a meal.

I love Indian food and Indian culture. My first experience with a 1st birthday party for a friend's child was an eye opener. It was at the country club, at the pool. We showed up with tshirts and shorts over swimsuits. But nooooo... it was this fancy indoor thing with everyone in the family from back home having made the journey, dressed in their silks, gifts of the expensive gold and silver type. But HAHA, he liked the simple plastic fire truck we gave him best, since he and all of his cousins could actually play with it. That's when we learned how important that 1st birthday is in Hindu culture.

Anyhooo, my friend is a cook and is always saying, "Taste this, it's my grandmother's recipe." And I learned a valuable money-saving lesson from her: Don't by spices in the grocery store. For half the price, you get about a pound of spice at the Indian grocer. So I bought a bunch and packaged it up in cute little jars to share with co-workers and such.

And I'm still talking about food. All of my posts seem to be about books and food. Maybe the Pshrunk can find something interesting from that?

Really? Oh Geoff, you make my heart yearn for your... sweets. Do you put lemon sauce on it, or how do you make it? And you wanna know something cool?... This woman who used to work in our cafeteria would save out some jalapeno cornbread from the day before, just a little, and mix it into the bread pudding. So you would be grooving along with the sweet sweet goodness and suddenly have that pepper zing. It was AMAZING!
