I'm trying to portray myself as a serious author (a stretch, I know).

That said, the mug shot is intended to emulate the Patrick McGoohan publicity photo that he used as a file photo for No. 6 on The Prisoner.

^I'd buy a book from him.

Pull the camera up a little and use a zoom lens (you'll get a better detph of field for a portrait). A little talc to cut down the shine helps too. I do like the black and white, but I'm a sucker for '50s and '60s aesthetic.
