I'm dripping with sweat - took an after dinner walk - stinking hot & humid.

Astro Turf - I've actually thought of that.

I do like what real lawn looks like when it is mowed and trimmed, but the constant upkeep gets old after a while.

I think that it is just the heat that makes it a pain. Cooler days are not bad, but when it is high 90'sF or in the 100'sF, I dread going out. I've tried after dark, but it doesn't cool down enough to make it much better.

A large Catholic church in the neighborhood where I grew up did that... They replaced all their surrounding lawn with cement dyed green. Looked hideous! Looking at it now with Google Map street view, I see that they have taken up all the cement and put back the lawn.

Keep your lawn, hire the neighbor kids to mow it once a week. Or have Poohbear come over with his new lawnmower. He works for chickenfeed.

We bought some of those 'gel cool sheets' for the bed and they are actually COLD! My wife had to put a cotton sheet over hers as it was too cold! They warm up to body temps after several hours in one spot, but if you just shift a bit you get a whole new blast of cool to sleep on! Very nice! We set the AC to 2 degrees warmer than our usual setting and slept well! I'm thinking about getting a couple of smaller pads to use on the couch!

These are like the smaller gel cool pads sold for dogs, but sized to fit people beds. They are about 1/2" thick, and as soon as your skin comes in contact with it you can feel it cooling. The advert with it says it tries to maintain 1.5-2 degrees cooler than ambient temps. I'm here to say it works!

That lawn mower does sound pretty good.

All the neighbor kids are very young and the older ones have moved out now. I swear that when I use to like doing the yard, I would always see yard care trucks around. Now that I am looking for them, I never see one around. I guess I really don't mind the mowing, it is just the edging. I have never liked that. It seems that dang string is always breaking and I have to open it up and rethread it or rewind it about 6 to 10 times every time I use it.

I'm with you on the rethreading. I use one with a plastic blade now, and you just replace it in a few seconds when it breaks or wears down.

Ordering my 7 day bus & Luas travelcard for my trip to Dublin. Since I'm going for eight days I have to decide if I get a taxi from the airport to campus the first day or take a taxi from campus to the airport on the last day. Both days I'm not expecting to do any more travelling by bus or Luas.

Also making a shopping list and a packing list for going to look after dog Luca for two and a half weeks from Saturday.

Trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop, and having problems. .NET seems to be screwed, and I can't connect to the Internet.

I'll be interested to hear your experience. I'm thinking about doing the same. I have no problems using WinXP, but in another year or two the newest software might not support it. I need to make the switch just to keep up with the evolution. CostCo is selling a teeny tiny ASUS notebook for about $350 USD but it has a Japanese version of Windows7 on it. It would be perfect for handling e-mails and the Internet while traveling. I also have to figure out how to install the OS without using a CD. This unit is too small to have a CD player. I guess I could use an external CD player, but I'd like to learn how to use a Thumb Drive memory stick to do an install.

What's wrong with the Japanese version of W7? If you want to run it in English I'm pretty sure you just need to install the appropriate language pack.

Hmmmm.... that's a thought... I wonder.... I know you can use English for text, etc., but I don't know if that will change the operating system messages, menus, etc., into English. I'll have to look into that. Karma for the idea!
