It seems to me that the number of lines in karma also depends on the resolution of your monitor and the viewing skin you select. The higher the resolution, the more characters per line displayed (at a fixed size) thus reducing the karma line count. Likewise, the selection of "Liquid" as the skin will yield fewer lines than "Fixed" or "Mobi" Maybe this is just me and my crazy set-up.
