Hey & that's perfectly fine. I'm addressing the comments that say it can't be done. If you look up a post or two you'll see I'd want it built in too. The fact that it's not does not negate the fact that it can be done. Soooooooo.... There ya go.

Cool. I can't carry my gadgets like that. I like to have a messenger bag or backpack.

In addition to being obtuse, you apparently have problems reading, also. You'll notice I've been a member here since three months before you joined.

Since some people have claimed that SD cards are about to become obsolete, let me fill you in on the latest development I just read about.
http://www.pcworld.com/businesscente...ml#tk.rss_news Sounds to me as if manufacturers feel that they are more important than ever and willing to invest big money to further improve the technology. Last edited by HansTWN; 04-05-2012 at 10:26 AM. |

I read as well as you read other posts about sweeping generalizations. Go read some of those posts & tell me I'm the only one doing it. Go on, go ahead. It's ok.

My comments were that when you generalize about everyone who disagrees with you, your points rarely seem valid. Comments like, "you people are disgusting", and opining that everyone who has a differing point of view has never owned an Apple device, and is, therefore, ignorant of their life-changing qualities, don't make your arguments more valid. I currently own, and use on a regular basis, four Apple devices. And there are things about them that I don't like. But, apparently, my ignorant, disgusting opinion is invalid.
And your defense is that I am new here? |

You're right that it doesn't mean it can't be done. But, it can't be done without purchasing more add-ons which would clutter up what some would agree to be a sleek looking device. |

What we're deaing with is two different paradigms. They lead to 2 different needs. One is not better than the other, just different.
Paradigm #1 - The PC (in the general sense, pick your OS). Designed to be autonomus, with real time communications as an option, not a neccessity. This paradigm depends on local storage, and local processing. Designed to be completely environment independent, except for electricity. Paradigm #2 - The cell phone. Designed to be completely dependent upon the communication network, totally worthless without it. Processing is an act of communications. No local storage needed. These two paradigm are trying to converge, but they have reached the hard nub of unreconcilable differences. Depending on which paradigm you come from, you get a different answer. And each paradigm viewpoint thinks it's viewpoint is the best way... PC paradigm considers local storage to be paramount, hence the demand for built-in SD readers. The cell phone paradigm considers them to be basically useless, data access should be by streaming. Hence the unconcern for local storage. Of course the cell phone paradigm has conceded that some local storage is handy, but it should be internal to the machine for convenience. The PC paradigm also can use streaming, but considers it a secondary source of data. See how the paradigms determine design, even when you could seamlessly meld the two? It even extends to software, the downloadable app, requiring an e-mail address to use, even when it's free, for the cell phone paradigm. The PC paradigm is load from any external source and use. No communications required. (Yes, I know, anti-piracy activations blur the paradigm, but they are just one-time communications, and not necessary for all software.) |

Additionally, the quality of the 3G/4G coverage is a concern. I travel around the US to teach, and carry a 4G modem with me. I rarely see 4G performance from it, and the speeds are never dazzling. I dream of nationwide 4G coverage with no data limits. Now I'm going to go sit in the corner and hold my breath, waiting. |
