Last P-book bought: Lee Child's latest Jack Reacher novel. I read paper by preference. We make frequent trips to the library, the used book store, and occasional trips to the new book store. I like the feel of paper. I like the longevity of paper. I like that I can brush crumbs off it, dry it out after I drop it in the bathtub, pick one up in a store and flip to any page to preview before I buy, find out-of-print books, can loan it to my friends, share it with my spouse, give it away, etc. I appreciate that paper has a life of it's own, and digital seems ephemeral. I like the fact that somebody usually feels compelled to check the layout, spelling, and grammar before publishing a paper book. I like that I can read a pbook on the laptop (or at least lap) I own, and I don't have to buy a matching lap or secret decoder glasses. I like that fights and skulduggery between book publishers, distributors, digital rights managers, retailers, etc., haven't removed p-book access from most of the library systems in my metro area. I like having a librarian or bookstore employee make recommendations based on what I already have in my hand. I like going to a friend's house and perusing their bookcase. I read ebooks (and buy ebooks) because I'm running out of storage space for paper books, and run out of will to "thin the herd". I take advantage of ebook promos to check out a new author (or a genre I don't usually read), or because it offers a significant price advantage to a pbook, and lately to acquire out-of-paper-print back catalog titles from authors I already know. My wife appreciates that she can enlarge the font size of ebooks. I like that I can have an ebook with me to read on my phone. KentE |

I'm going to order Wool (Omnibus) from Amazon in paperback form because it's the best book I've read this year and I'd like to give it to my non-eReading mother. It's tempting to buy another copy just for me - just because. Yep - loved it that much.

I just don't like to read books in paper anymore I guess. I automatically reach for my ereader when I want to read, rather than look through my bookshelf to grab a pbook. | |

it would be silly of me to not buy my fiction in paperback form, especially considering amazon's '4 for 3' promotion. if i'm paying the same prices as the ebook version i may as well get physical copies and a freebie.

Most recently received: Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee. Unfortunately unreadable for me in its shiny brand new paperback form, but at least I don't have to feel overly guilty about reading the unofficial ebook instead. (Oddly enough, her Biting the Sun, same size paperback released by the same publisher, looks somewhat more readable with slightly bigger print and wider margins - not by much, but enough that it'll probably make a difference once I actually get around to reading it, or trying to read it.) Most recently bought, currently on its way towards me - judging by the time it's taking to get here, probably on donkey back somewhere in Switzerland by now - the paperback version of Skulduggery Pleasant: Death Bringer by Derek Landy (as part of the solitary current series I buy in ebook, hardback and paperback). |

Just bought three paper books in the local charity shop. No doubt at least two of them will be donated back once I've read them. The other one is a travel guide so I may well keep it. My Kobo is mostly used for public library items, free or heavily discounted ebooks (OK I'm a cheapskate!). If I really want a new book and intend to keep it, then I want a paperback on the (wood) bookshelves. Hardbacks just take up too much shelf space! For example, although an ardent admirer of all things Pratchett, I still haven't read "Snuff" because I'm waiting for it to come out in paperback. |

I buy paper books for the kids all the time. My most recent purchase was Eric Carle's Kohl's Cares for Kids books. I don't buy paper novels for myself anymore, although I occasionally buy books that are meant to be inspiration guides for my crafting hobbies (scrapbooking and knitting.) |

I don't buy paper books often because I don't buy books often. The last pbook I brought was a GRE guidebook, which would look terrible on a five inch e-reader. I also brought a non-fiction book from Barnes & Noble back in January. In general, I usually get both p-books and e-books from the library.
