I too haven't bought a book in a while. In fact I'd gone off reading altogether and was only listening to audio books. No particular reason, no allergy to paper or mould spores. Then I got a Kindle and I have started reading again.

I guess I get mood swings. You know what it's like when you pick up a book and can't get into it, then three months later you pick it up again and can't put it down? With the Kindle you can have hundreds of books loaded and try a few before you find one that suits that space and time.

I only buy pbooks as reference works or if I intend to chop & scan them. I don't read pbooks for entertainment anymore.

There are a few - very few (like maybe 2) - authors I collect in paper, because I have all their books and like to maintain the collection. And I'll buy anything with Lois Bujold's name on it, because she's such a wonderful writer and I want to support her in any way I can. I do admit, however, that most authors have fallen off my paper list and I only buy them in eformat anymore.

I occasionally borrow paper books from the library (reference books and those not available on Kindle), but I haven't purchased one in years. I last one I recall buying was a book on pottery decoration.

Library user before the e-reader. Library user after the e-reader.

I do pick up a used book every now and then. And will buy a new book if it can't be found in the library and I absolutely need it--it happens once a year at most.

I bought my nook last Thanksgiving and haven't read a pbook since. I've bought used books and recently brought home some library books. But I look at the small un-changeable fonts and I recoil in horror. Did anyone else go through this phase? How did you overcome it? Or did you just stick with ebooks?

Yes, the fonts in mass-market paperbacks now seem so small—and often difficult to read on lower-quality paper. And hardback books seem so unwieldy now. I like the way books feel in hand, but keeping them propped open to read is a hassle. The e-reader has spoiled me forever!

I bought The Buyout of America: How Private Equity Will Cause the Next Great Credit Crisis on Amazon Marketplace for half the price of the ebook, including shipping. Before I hit the buy button, I checked the three plibraries I frequent and none had it. I probably should have gone the ILL route, however.

End result is their sales are reduced by one (at least) and I'm reading these from the local library.

I thought I was the only one who had to have a series all in the same format. It really bugs me if they're not all the same size/shape.

Yep, I buy paper books all the time. We're very lucky where we live and have quite a few thrift stores and the most I have paid for a paper book was something like $6 for a kids educational book. Normally I pay about a dollar and a half for hardback, and somewhere from 60 cents to a dollar for any book. Some stores have the buy x books and the next one is free. As I said, very lucky.

My kids get all their books this way too, unless we go to the library or their grandparents buy them books.

But, I don't have an ereader yet.

Oh, and I did get whatever the new book mil wanted for the holidays in hardback. She's impossible to shop for so . . .

I still buy p-books. Probably about 60% of my leisure reading is done on my e-reader. I still enjoy reading p-books, and am in no hurry to switch to 100% digital.

I will continue to purchase paper books until the 2 or 3? sets I have been collecting are complete (in one case that means only 1 more book, who knows on the other). But I may end up getting both digital and paper books, so I can complete the collection but read it the way I prefer. I would end up waiting on the hard copy if that is the case.

I do appreciate cookbooks in print. They don't have the same appeal on an e-ink device. I am enjoying e-cookbooks on my tablet, though, where I can view any photos in color. When I'm cooking, I put the tablet in a Ziploc bag to prevent food from getting on it.
