Updating jailbreak hacks on Kindle 3?

			So in this thread:

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88004 the first post asks us to update our jailbreak hacks. But I've looked, and it's not immediately obvious if that can be done over the top of the hack that is already there, or if my SS hack and/or jailbreak hacks (that's all I'm running) need to be uninstalled and reinstalled first. If anyone can help me clear this up, I'd appreciate it! I know how to do it both ways, I just want to know what the best practice is. Thanks! -- Chris P.S. FWIW, I'm currently running Jailbreak 0.4 and SS hack 0.18. Firmware version is 3.3, and I installed the hacks right around a year ago. Last edited by clemon79; 01-06-2012 at 05:32 PM. |

Took a plunge and decided to try to uninstall the screensaver hack, using the identical included uninstall file I quite purposefully saved in just such an event. Like many here, it is failing to uninstall the hack. This concerns me, especially since from what I can tell all of those other posts have gone unanswered.

			You can try this:

First uninstall the jailbreak, then install the latest one. and try to uninstall screensaver hack again |

So it is safe to uninstall the jailbreak without first removing the associated hacks? Alright, I'll give that a shot, thanks!

EDIT: Nope, jailbreak uninstaller failed as well. Not pleased. Last edited by clemon79; 01-06-2012 at 07:23 PM. |

Nope. Same failure. Fortunately none of these are bricking the device, they are just deleting the upgrade file and rebooting the device.

then only remaining option which I can suggest : just use the installer of the latest jailbreak to install it over the previous one. (or you can wait to see a better advice )

Well, that goes back to my original question, whether it's safe to do that. Sounds like you don't know for sure so I think I should hope for someone else to chime in. My concern is that I know the old SS hack isn't going to work on the new jailbreak, so I don't want to get into a situation where the old SS hack doesn't work and won't uninstall with no way to fix it.

In your specific case (ie. updating the jailbreak *after* the official update), you can just safely install the latest jailbreak on top of everything, everything else will fail. Last edited by NiLuJe; 01-07-2012 at 09:47 AM. |

![]() Now that I know it's safe, I'll roll the new one over the top and see if that lets me fix other things. Thanks! |

![]() Now that I know it's safe, I'll roll the new one over the top and see if that lets me fix other things. Thanks! EDIT: That fixed it. The problem was that your second bullet point there is kinda ambiguous...it says "no need to uninstall" except for some VERY SPECIFIC situations, and then goes on to describe exactly my situation: updating the jailbreak on a 3.X device. So I wasn't sure if it was safe to just roll over the top. |
