Well, the Dutch male is also to be reckoned with when he's not feeling well. Sixteen days after getting his dentures my father still refuses to chew anything. Bread gets cut up in tiny squares so he can avoid chewing, bananas still gets mashed, etc. My mother, my sister and I are getting very fed up with eating pasta, soup and other soft things. He was actually angry when we ate something different on Christmas day (tortillas) than him (pasta).

In about two weeks' time he's getting a soft filler in his dentures and I think he's going to wait until then to start chewing again.

It was to be expected, he's afraid of even the possibility of pain; when buying shoes he wants them to fit perfectly from the get go and doesn't want to have to wear them in.

/end of rant.

He was lucky today, he had made an appointment for this afternoon for a quick consult with the dentist but someone cancelled an appointment and he could come earlier and had longer. The dentist took out a bone splinter and ground down a bit of sharp bone. Because he had more time my father got the soft filling on the inside of his dentures today instead of in two weeks' time. Immediately it fits better and he's going to try to chew soft food tomorrow. I hope he (and thus us) can eat normal food again soon!

Hope you feel better soon. Here in Oz we say we've got "the wog". I'd never heard "the crud" in that context before.

I'm wondering hw much longer I can stand having my BIL here before I strangle him with my one good hand. Pity that I've got a splint and not a cast or I could belt him with that, the pain would be worth it. 4 more days to go!!

dressed ready for the gym nearly an hour early! feeling guilty becuase I don't want to do that long on the treadmill before my class, but also because of all the additional eating I have been doing lately.

Although today I have managed to stick to my diet, so well that i am having a chicken curry and wine for dinner. (As long as I do at least 15 minutes on the treadmill)

OKOK stop procrastinating and get on my bike! *sigh*

Geez I know what you mean, I am trying to do at least 30 mins on the bike and a few steps and floor exercises so that when I get back to the gym after my arm heals I won't be too fat and feeble, but it's not really happening. And there are so many christmas leftovers. Which reminds me, where's that chocolate tart

It's a great name for the time of year.

The comet doesn't look like a bright star. It started out appearing as a very bright spotlight directed straight up in the sky. It has dimmed considerably and now looks like a long brighter smudge in the Milkyway.

I mailed back my old Kindle to Amazon today and I emailed them the track & trace number plus what it had cost me to send it back. To my amazement I just got an email telling me the money has been put on my gift card balance. Great service!

I now just wish that the gift card balance could be used by all Amazon stores (also the English, German and in the future the Dutch Amazon) because there are some things I'd like to buy from Amazon UK.

Now I'm trying not to go on an ebook buying binge (my tbr pile is big enough as it is).

Since Amazon opened a Kindle store in France, they have been showing me messages to get me to "transfer my account" from amazon.com to amazon.fr. I was reluctant to do it at first, then I did it when I wanted to buy something in French, I don't remember what. Since then, I cannot buy anything on amazon.com, I have to go to amazon.fr. The price is higher because of the VAT but so far the availability of the books in English that I wanted was the same on amazon.fr as on amazon.com.

Of course, this is because I'm using the same account on all amazon sites, with my address in France. I could also create a new account at amazon.com with an address in the U.S., but I'm too lazy to do it.

I just got the bill and info booklet for the holiday I booked. On page 3 of the booklet it says that if you want to check in when the reception is closed you should call a certain number. Underneath it is the heading "opening times of reception" which states that the opening times can be found in the welcome package you get when you check in .

I'm also using the same account for all Amazon's website, it would be nice if the gift card balance could also be used on all websites.

There are rumours that before summer 2012 Amazon will open a Dutch webstore. Depending on how much English ebooks they have and how much they cost I might switch my account. I'm also hoping you can pay with iDeal (Dutch online debit card payment method), that makes it also a lot more appealing to switch.
