Who has a UK store!
But... the buttons don't work when you view it through a proxy. Because... the proxy just wants you to look and not touch? No, I freaking have no idea at this point. There's some funky-cold-medina crap going on in the code, but I don't have enough knowledge to trouble-shoot it, I guess. |

Because you usually do need the former for many places and web-based proxies will fail on a lot of e-book shopping sites, even for just adding the promo freebies to your library with no payment-checking involved, including Amazon and Google Books. |

AHA.
For those of you following along at home, the correct answer was "http://www.openproxy.co.uk" + "amazon.co.uk" + EntroPay + second email address + second computer + hotel in London address + calibre. And it only took me four hours and five spoons. ![]() |

I know for a fact it works on Amazon UK, and even if you might have to strip and convert for your reader, at least you'll be able to use up that Entrepay (?) thing you got. ETA: Never mind, it seems you've solved it? * Since they've gotten popular, they've severely restricted some of the usage limits so I'd rather not have an Xmas newbie explosion causing a positive feedback loop of such. I wish they had a pay-as-you go per GB option because I'd cheerfully shell out a few pounds to cover the minimal usage I do. Maybe one of these days I'll buy a "month" and use it on my Mac to watch a whole bunch of BBC iPlayer and Channel 4 on Demand stuff*. ** I buy their not-available-in-Canada DVDs when Amazon UK has the good discount sales. Just so you know. |

And dear dog in heaven, nothing is ever easy because now EntroPay wants a ream of documentation to make sure I'm who I say I am.
So, in conclusion, anyone who tells you that getting around geo restrictions is "easy", is lying to you, kids. ![]() |

Yeah, the gift card thing is the way to go. Entropay charges 7%.
Congratulations, AM, on getting it to work! I gave up after an hour or so and I wasn't even trying to buy anything. It wasn't a bookstore either but it knew I was in the US. |

![]() In other news, these EntroPay folks are easily the stupidest people I've dealt with this year. They've demanded a copy of my utility bill -- AHAHAHAHAHA! -- when we're paperless and all that is in Husband's name. When I tried to explain this, they repeated themselves. Like, literally did not read my email. &*^% I'm just about to tell them to close my account entirely, if I can get the Amazon thing to work. Here's hoping the vaunted Amazon Customer Service pulls through for me. I'm having a hell of a time over here. Still don't have anything OTHER than Charlie and the Choolate Factory because EntroPay and Amazon have slammed everything down tight. Last edited by anamardoll; 12-26-2011 at 05:03 PM. |

Oh, hey, look at the gray-on-white text on my Amazon.com gift card:
2. Limitations. - Gift Cards may not be redeemed for the purchase of products at Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.co.jp, Amazon.ca, or any other website operated by Amazon.com, its affiliates, or any other person or entity, except as indicated by these terms and conditions. I really do hate Amazon so much sometimes. My own fault for not reading the fine print, I guess. |

Because GCs are non-transferrable across the various country storefronts (probably due to currency exchange issues) and if I cashed in my Swagbucks on an Amazon.ca GC, I wouldn't be able to apply it to the Amazon.com version of my Canadian-based official identity to pay for my few Kindle books, though I could use it perfectly well to subsidize my not-available-on-the-US-shopping-site Francophone paper purchases up here in Canada. If it really is stuck on the .com version of your UK account, then just keep buying there with your region set appropriately until you exhaust the funds, then switch your Kindle account over to the .co.uk version of the store to access the UK-only selections (apparently, this may now be a one-way trip, according to people who've commented in the Amazon forums). ETA: Another thing you've worked out for yourself in the time it took me to type this up! |
