No italic? Yikes. How can they screw up something so basic?

If so that would give me a bigger screen than my phone, and faster navigation than the navigator button on my old keyboard Kindle.
Because of the slow screen refresh rate, I doubt if web surfing /email is very pleasant even with touch. Think of all the screen flashing.

It's okay on my Kobo touch. The more recent devices are much better in regards to the flash than previous generations.

Lame.

It's not even positioned as a premium product anymore. With both types of Kindles being sold for pretty much half this price in Tescos and Kobos the same in WHSmiths, Sony can take a running jump, particularly with their non-existant customer support.

And I love my PRS650.

No reader at the inn.......

Out of interest, I went to UK Sony shop to see the "official" price for T1.
Apparently you have to ring a central number if you want to buy one - in normal shop hours !
Then, when I tapped in postcode for store, it showed my nearest one's location, (30 miles away) but not whether it had any stock or not, nor how much it would be....... I would have to ring them up too.

None of this online shopping stuff for them, mate....

Thank you David. I have decided to get one. I am in the process of deleting my books from my 600. All the books are gone but I have to delete the empty collection items since those still show up on the reader as being there with no books in them.

Next I'm going to download the new Reader for pc software and load all of my books onto that. That's going to take some time, and even more time to load them onto my new reader once I get it.

Do you have any tips (aside from using Calibre for my books) to offer?

I've had it since launch and never had the issues reported (crashing, freezes, page flips etc). However last week I had the touch screen go unresponsive after about 2 hours of reading. I was using the buttons so it didn't bother me,,I just did the reset and was back up within a minute.

I've had a few readers and would rank it as one of the best I've used..

Well I now have a PRS T1! I love it, I got the reader, the lighted cover & the charger all for 134.85! I updated to software to version 1.1.04.11230 and then let it synch all of my books. It took about an hour.

It's great to have a new reader. If you are on the fence about this jump off & get one!

I went into the Sony store in Boston, walked out within 10 minutes with my new reader. Between the $50.00 trade in and the $99.00 price of the reader, it was an offer I just couldn't refuse!

They seem pretty eager to get rid of their 2011 stock haha! But sounds like a good deal. I still want to keep my Kobo touch. The pleasure and pain that it came with makes it like one of my kids. Can't trade it in.

So that is basically $50 for their latest reader? Fantastic bargain. At the same time it makes me wonder why they are so eager to get rid of them. Are they departing the e-reader business?

If by "troubled model" you refer to the x50 range, then that's not correct. The x50 range has been hugely popular among users and I am not under the impression it is a troubled range at all. The PRS600, now that was a model that they shouldn't have released and I would be happy to trade one in if I had one.

No way I would trade in any working x50 for $50! They are worth way more than that!

I would assume they're desperate to compete with Amazon and B&N before they're cornered out of the market entirely. Particularly the book-store market, which is an important thing to capture.
