Its still it's usual exorbitant price Down under $179, I can't seem to get any of the retailers to budge more than $5 on it

I've been reading in the Sony thread, and it doesn't look too good what with the freezing & quirky software. One thing I can say is that I have had no problem with either the software or my PRS 600 reader. Both have been rock solid for me.

I'm not partial to going from rock solid to possibly unreliable & frustrating.

The price on this Sony is fluctuating. Earlier today, Dell was selling it for $100. Personally, I think it should be priced at $99. That's the going price for the other major ereaders.

Is it Sony reducing their margin, or retailers lowering theirs ?

Trying to judge whether you're going to have problems with the reader and what the severity of it will be is a hit and miss.

I've had it since launch and never had the issues reported (crashing, freezes, page flips etc). However last week I had the touch screen go unresponsive after about 2 hours of reading. I was using the buttons so it didn't bother me,,I just did the reset and was back up within a minute.

I've had a few readers and would rank it as one of the best I've used..

Someone needs to do it. The average consumer will not pay more than $99 for an ereader these days.

Which is something that doesn't cease to surprise me -- considering how much time I spend using my eReader I consider quality and ease of use the prime considerations for buying. I can't image why anybody would cut corners to save 20 or even 50 bucks on a device they'll likely will end up using for hundreds of hours.

I fear that consumers often times are as shortsighted and greedy as the large cooperation's they tend to complain about loudly and viciously.

Updated the original post to show the even lower price.

Argh, so tempting now. If they'd accept my one tablet (I have an Eken M-002 Android tablet, that really kinda sucks), I'd so totally go for it.

Does Sony allow a trade-in only within the U.S.?

-- Allthough, come to think of it, my Sony 505 and 600 are both sitting in a drawer in the U.S., while I sit here in Peru!!

That 79 dollar kindle has lots of ease of use and is solidly built. So is the $99 Kobo Touch. The Sony was glitchy even when it cost $149. Sony just plain made some mistakes, as much I as like their readers. I mean, a glossy finish? It looks so bloody cheap! They should at least have gone for a rubberized finish like the nook and the Kobo.

I read the specifications for the PRS-T1.

They said that the reader was compatible with the browsers IE, Firefox, and others. It also had two finger pinch touch to spread or reduce the screen.

Can I use it to read email and surf the web except of course for video and flash like on a computer?

If so that would give me a bigger screen than my phone, and faster navigation than the navigator button on my old keyboard Kindle.

Frankly, the bug where italics don't show up is a much bigger concern to me than the freezing issues, which I haven't seen yet.
