Thanks, good advice I will wait to see how the print looks on the DXG.

Funny when I went into my amazon books and clicked on send to DX, it said it sent, but no pending deliveries like you usually see. But when I sent from my "personal documents" it would show pending deliveries.

Yeah I plan to just use Calibre and USB to send my library over initially.

If you turn off 3G whispernet delivery I would guess your deliveries will not go? Someone said here to turn it off? I turned mine back on before I tried to send.

Sounds like from personal documents only, not from your books from Amazon. Just good to know you can send from your personal documents free. If I get the same free on 3G I will be happy.

Thank you for the answers on the screen...
(I like the BookGem stands: use them mainly for hard copy books, but they work well for the Kindles as well (3 or DX).

Maybe something like that may be more useful for the e-readers as it allows multi-positioning.

Thanks for the link (and for confirming that the Bookgem works for the DX.) I hadn't seen that other stand before. It looks like it could be a good option.

Thanks Thomas, you were right the print on the DX looks just like the Sans Serif on the Kindle 3, nice and dark.

Very beautiful, I think it is very responsive on page turns and fast enough for my liking. I don't plan on doing any changes on mine now.

Only problem is the back side is slicker than I can hold on. I almost drop it. I bought a rubber type zipper pouch from Marshalls for $5 to store it in. But now I think I may have to find something to put on the back so I don't drop it. I don't want a cover I don't think.

I saw someone used bathtub strips on the back. I may have to resort to that if I can't find something cheaper than $40

Does the page turn click louder to anyone else than other Kindles?

Since I did receive about 5 Amazon books via 3G on the DX and I did mark "0" in the dollar amount I have to assume that I was not charged. Funny I did end up receiving the ones I deleted on my Amazon account pending files.

I didn't get any emails saying I was charged. I clicked on my digital orders and it just takes you to the Kindle Library. So hopefully I was not charged. Amazon is just so vague on 3G fees, they make it sound like if you don't have wi-fi you are charged.

You will not be charged for any Amazon books over 3G, full stop. If you have selected $0 download on your manage your kindle, you should never see a fee for anything that you actually receive.

Cover-wise, I've always loved my Amazon black leather cover. Bit pricey, but worth it imho.

Btw, page turn buttons get a bit less 'clickier' over time, with all Kindles. Also depends where (top-bottom) you click them (you figure it out, lol!).

Yes I did notice the area you click to turn the page is on the inside of the button, not on the outside edge like the Kindle 3 is. I did find I accidentally turn pages holding the edge of the K3 sometimes, so maybe this DXG keypad will be better.

Question on your cover, it doesn't smash the toggle switch does it? I read some covers do damage the toggle switch. Also do you attach a clip on reading light on the cover? Wondered if the cover was too thick to accommodate a light clip.

Thanks for your help.

Haven't had any problems with the cover hitting/damaging the toggle cursor. I would not put any weight on top of the DXG though since this is just a cover, not a hard case.

I use a clipon reading light and attach it to the folded over top cover. Works well for me.

cheers,
Tom

Thanks Tom

Since you are so helpful can explain to me some things on the DX.

1. I tried to sync to the latest reading spot on the DX (from my Kindle 3) and it said something to the effect that you will see the sync after you close the book or DX goes to sleep. I tried closing the book (exiting) and also put DX to sleep. Nothing changed. It should have gone to the proper page if the sync was working. I know I have my Amazon account setup to sync. Am I doing something wrong? I also went to the menu and restarted the DX. Still no change. Should I power down completely?

2. I noticed a tiny bit of battery drain overnight, and I didn't use it after I fully charged it. It came to me only 1/2 full, so I charged for several hours and got the green light. Is that normal? I always turn off the 3G.

3. I tried the browser and compared it to the K3, and of course I see 2.5.8 is much different than the 3.3 on the K3. But are you able to save the last web page you visited? Can you share any tips? I would like to be able to do somethings if and when the power goes out and my network wouldn't be able to work. I thought that would be nice.

4. I sent a .pdf book from my Calibre to my DX and it didn't go. I sent the same book I converted to .azw and it went to my K3. I did set up my 2 different Kindle addresses and I made sure I sent to the correct address for each file. Why didn't it work? I will try again with a .azw book.

Sorry so many questions, but lots to learn.

Thanks so much for your help.

P.S. Forgot one more thing. I read reviews on the cover for the Kindle and some said the hinge broke the plastic on the Kindle. Can you tell me did they fix the problem?

1. Don't know, never have used the sync. the very few times I have needed to find the same spot on each kindle I just write down the location number and enter it in the menu/goto on the other.

2. You need to give it a good long overnight charge when you get it. Just topping it off (even though it shows green, and battery bas shows full) does not seem to actually fully charge it. I usually give mine an overnight charge once per week.

3. When you are in the browser you can hit menu and save the current bookmark/website. When you finish browsing, turn off 3g, then go back to 3g browsing you will go to the last website you were looking at. Sorry I cannot give you any fancy tips, just play around with it youself and I'm sure you'll figure it out.

4. Don't use caliber to send anything directly via 3g to my kindles so I don't know. I usually just send them over using the usb lead, to the kindle documents folder. Fastest, and most reliable way to transfer them imho.

I have not had any problems with my DXG cover hinges. I think some of the problem is guys trying to open the wrong side (back). There is a nice little silver Kindle logo on the front of the cover so you really should not have any problems remembering how to do this.

Thanks for your help once again.

I was on the phone for well over an hour today with Customer Service and talked to 2 people. I now have been told you can't sync the DX (because of 2.5.8) personal documents. I could sync if I had two 3.3 Kindles. A real bummer for me. They should have been able to tell me that in the first 5 minutes instead of troubleshooting, reset, etc. etc. Sigh....But guess I will do what you do write down the location.

I do love reading it over the Kindle 3 because of obvious reasons less page turning.

I ordered the Kindle amazon cover since it hopefully will fit nicely in my 10" netbook zipper protector. I will have to mark the top of the side to open with a silk flower or something that I can feel in the dark (lol) since I read in the dark with my booklight.

So hard to believe they are dropping the DX because I do love it! What is wrong with the Amazon people who make decisions? The older generation (me) love bigger readers to see. Glad I glad the DX anyway.

Thanks again.

I am still on a business trip, so I haven't had a chance to look at my new DXG. But I am sure I will love it. There really is nothing wrong with Amazon, the problem is that most customers have been taken in by the tablet hype and won't spend enough on a large e-ink device to make it worthwhile for Amazon. Tablets are nice toys you can do many things with, but I sure don't want to read a book on one!
