Because usually there's some kind of hint or rumor that it's going to happen.
Not the case here. There haven't been any firmware updates for nearly a year, and the DX is still stuck on the version 2 firmware.
The product page has also been abandoned, and the DX isn't included in the menu of Kindles.

That's why I think there won't be a new model. What reason is there to think they *will* come out with a new 10" e-ink model?

I have to admit, the special price for Cyber Monday roped me in. I had to dig to find it, though, so I do agree that not providing a link to the DX from the main Kindle Sales area is not a good sign of future support.

The ability to display & zoom on PDF's is my main reason for wanting this specific device, but I didn't want it badly enough to pay full price.

Back to it's regular price now = $379. That ought to slow down sales of the DXG again, lol!

Yeah back up to $379. But I am afraid they will mark it down more than $259 next time and I will kick myself for not waiting for the lower price. But I thought since it said while supplies last that they were about out. Trickery on their part? Since they don't price match not much I can do about it.

Still it was a gamble and I am not so sure they will make a new 10" either. There are no others making them, so makes you think they are on the way out. Glad I am getting one tomorrow anyway.

Question: I accidentally deleted the waiting document for the DX, it was from Amazon about transferring to the DX. Was it important?

Since I decided to just plug the DX in and transfer via Calibre with the plugin to add the font (hope it goes well) I got delete happy on the Personal Documents. Didn't want to goof and have to pay for 3G to transfer. It is not very clear what they charge you for.

With "Kindle Collections" isn't that considered a hack where you add the font directly to the Kindle itself? I sometimes have difficulty following instructions and hope I do okay tomorrow Hope this does work on the DXG as it says it does.

But I did download the plug in and made sure it shows on my toolbar. So the instructions must have been somewhat good. That is why I decided not to do the firmware update the instructions were not clear to a non-geeky person.

Just wait until you get your DXG and see what you think about the built-in font. It's pretty good imho. Not sure what you are talking about when you say 'personal documents'. There isn't any charge for downloading any of your amazon books via 3G. If you have a number of other books on your pc it's a lot faster to just transfer them over via the usb.

Got one recently as well... Has anyone noticed that compared with the Kindle 3, the DX has a slightly darker gray background? (and fonts are a tiny bit "thicker")? Should not the DX and 3 have exactly the same screen?

(I also ask this as I wonder whether I received a defective unit. The unit works fine now, but charging took considerably longer than a "few minutes" and I had to force start-up a number of times via the manual switch after more than one hour of charging (with power adapter)).

must be a batch variation issue as my dxg screen looks identical to my aunt's k3, apart from the obvious size difference.

Should be the same, my +14 month old K3 and DXG look identical, way better than my new k4nt. Sounds like you should ask for a replacement.

Yes i too set it to $0. I have downloaded a lot of mobis from other sites like project gutenberg. Anyway with the help of personal documents i can send books from my calibre library to my kindle via 3g. That is new.

Personally, reading lying on my side is much better for my eyes. (And my arms and hands.) I'm the only person in my family who doesn't need glasses, and the only one that has always read primarily lying on my side.

Oh, I've got plenty of book stands and the like. I haven't tried one with the DX, and don't think I will bother. I really like reading on my K3 with the lighted cover while lying down.
