Seems like I can get it for about 220 euros locally. Is that too much for it?

If you're talking about the Pocket Edge, that's a pretty steep price. It's a good price for the full-size Edge.

Oh, comes in 2 sizes.

(Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier! )
I've been looking at that, too, for academic purposes, but I saw it was discontinued. Is that a big disadvantage/ what are the consequences of that? I've seem some on ebay (UK) for a decent price (85 pounds).

For academic purposes you probably want the big eDGe (10" LCD and 9.7" e-ink screens -- if I remember right! ). The problem with being discontinued is there is no support from the manufacturer, and any further upgrades will have to come from the user community (see the forum here on MobileRead under Android).
There are some very smart people still working on/with the devices and willing to answer questions. I don't know whether that's enough for you.

I'm very happy with both of my eDGes, but wish some good company had picked up the concept and was working to make them faster, lighter, and even better. I have yet to see another device I like as much.

If you do want a phone with the best screen available, get the Samsung Infuse from AT&T, or the Droid Charge if you're on Verizon, & seeing as how one of your devices listed is a Droid X, I'm assuming you're on Verizon. I actually have the Droid Charge, I don't use it as an e-reader, but the screen is amazing.
Its pentile but its different from the one used by older phones
you can check the detailed comparison here

Oh, I do really like the sound and look it it I've gone for an iPad now, though. I'm not very 'techy' at all (I don't even understand basic vocabulary like hacking and rooting ), so the manufacturer support matters to me. I hope someone else invents a new and improved version in the future. I think the concept is great.
