Tried to collect Reader - Waterstones fails to deliver! I'm cross!!

I ordered and paid a deposit for my reader in Waterstones in Harrogate on Sunday last. "It will definitely be here on Thursday sir!" I didn't leave a phone number for them to contact me as I need it to be a surprise.

I went to collect it just after five this afternoon, only to be told they 'hadn't arrived yet". They had purportedly been sent by Parcel Force 'Same Day Delivery' this morning and should be here 'any minute', at which point one of the other sales assistants said, "We tried to ring everyone yesterday to say there would be a delay"

Puzzling! How did they know yesterday there would be a delay if they were being sent today with 'Same Day Delivery' and that they might arrive 'any minute'.

The first assistant then told me that if they didn't arrive today, "they were bound to arrive tomorrow, if the Post Office manages"

By this time, I wasn't just puzzled but quite cross. I returned to the shop just before closing time - needless to say there had been no delivery. We'll see what tomorrow brings!

Anyone else had any problems?

Best Wishes
David

Hi David,

Something is definitely wrong there!

Swindon store had them in at least on Tuesday and possibly before. I believe but cannot confirm that there may be only a few of them in some stores. Swindon had 9.

Either Harrogate did not get any, which seems very strange or they sold out and have not told you.

Regards

Chris

Yes - it does all seem strange. They have had one on display. Why they should try to ring me yesterday is puzzling.

I guess you were the one suprised I really do hope you get it tomorrow. Maybe you can perhaps call them to verify that the shipment has come in and save yourself a trip?

Similar situation for me on Thursday and they were pretty rude about it too - so I went to a neighbouring shop, bought my toy then (yay!) and returned the other one when it arrived.

Not terribly impressed with Waterstones at the moment I must say.

My DHL delivery was screwed up too. I ended up buying one in a local store and I'll be returning the spare one on Monday.

Yes - I picked it up yesterday (Saturday) - the bonus was that I got double points on my card because of this weekend's promotion.

The downside is that I have had barely any time to get to familiarise myself with it and probably won't until tomorrow evening.

Looks good though. I'm impressed with the standard cover but concerned that there's little protection for the ports, headphone socket etc., I wouldn't want to get caught outside with it if there were a sudden change in the weather.

Best Wishes

This is why plastic bags were invented. Or maybe not. But they are useful.

Useful for bringing the shopping home, maybe.

Sturdy enough for what I might want: nah!

There are far too many polluting far too many landfill sites already.

I was thinking of a clear ziploc-style bag to hold the reader when wet, while reading at the beach, in the bath etc.
I've got cotton bags for shopping (she said smugly). Also a plastic bag for life, made from strips of plastic carrier bags crocheted into a long-life strong bag.

I had the same problem in Huddersfield. The Kingsgate branch assured me my order would arrive on thursday the 4th, I made a special trip to town to discover it hadn't arrived. I found one for sale at a sister branch.
