I remember those days Still waiting. He'll probably be here within the next hour.

Yeah, I was surprised - normally they don't leave electronics without a signature. That's why I normally have them sent to work, plus work is more secure (i.e., somebody has to be there to receive it). Unfortunately, I'm laid up post-surgery right now, so work delivery wasn't an option. But, fortunately, I live in a really safe neighborhood, with a lot of retirees and shift workers, so there's usually a lot of "watchful eyes."

One thing was curious, though. I'd thought I'd seen review videos where the packaging had a picture of the Fire on it(?). Mine says "KindleFire" on it, but no picture, though. Maybe Amazon realized that the picture would help it become a theft magnet, and switched gears...Anyway, good luck on an early "blessed arrival."

Well, it finally says mine is out for delivery. It went to Chicago, sat there overnight, and then came back to the burbs to my normal stop before delivery (Westmont).

I am working at home the next 2 days (good thing, too, cause I am sicker than a dog) and when I packed my rolling briefcase last night, I forgot I had put my K4 in a pocket. So I was standing on the train platform, waiting for the last express train to my town, and thinking I had a 20 minute train ride with nothing to read! I was actually thinking of reading some of the work in the briefcase. Then I realized I was reading a book I bought from Amazon, and I swear, in 2 minutes, I had grabbed my phone, clicked on Kindle and brought my book up. I never had the wireless on my K4, so it wasn't synced, but it wasn't difficult to find my place.

I have to say, reading on my phone isn't a terrible situation. Of course it isn't as nice, but it sure was great, in a pinch, to be able to read my book. Of course, ONCE I GET MY FIRE, it will be terrific. I like just tapping on the margin to turn the page. Dare I say it is even more convenient that my wonderful K4? I need that FIRE!

Thank you kindly. I'm still waiting for 1700 hrs. That's when it will be.

I know! I think Amazon must have stolen the design team from Apple. Those folks are known for their zenlike, simple is better designs with a flare of elegance. Unfortunately Apple then forgets to put much effort into the functionality and software, but Amazon seems to have done both really well on the Fire.

Right now mine is in Wisconsin. Last night it was in Kentucky.

Agreed, I've read on my iphone when out and about and it's not too bad.

Actually it's Blackberry playbook they took the form factor from. Dropbox app works! they have now blocked Mantano from the Fire's store Good thing I have the apk from my phone because it looks great!
@ Amazon.

I was able to get the APK for Business Calendar Free, but alas it won't work in the Fire as far as syncing Google calendars. The reason is that the Fire locks out our ability to set up Google Accounts due to the fact there is no Android Settings menu option on the Fire! This little lock out can be a huge thing with many apps.

Right without the Google framework you can't synch on many apps which is why it's locked out.
