I just want this series to be done, I enjoyed the first books enough to slog through the last few by Jordan, and Brandon Sanderson has done an excellent job getting the series back on track, i.e., actual progress.
Waiting on this too. Currently reading A Gathering Storm which is the first book written by Sanderson.

I agree, books 1-5 were great, 6 and 7 were decent, 8-10 went nowhere!, 11 was better and 12 is really good!

I started this series last November and should be ready for the last one just as it comes out.

I'm waiting on the sequel to The Passage too. The first one was fantastic.

Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed
Quote:
From Saladin Ahmed, finalist for the Nebula and Campbell Awards, comes one of the year's most anticipated fantasy debuts, THRONE OF THE CRESCENT MOON, a fantasy adventure with all the magic of The Arabian Nights.

The Crescent Moon Kingdoms, land of djenn and ghuls, holy warriors and heretics, Khalifs and killers, is at the boiling point of a power struggle between the iron-fisted Khalif and the mysterious master thief known as the Falcon Prince. In the midst of this brewing rebellion a series of brutal supernatural murders strikes at the heart of the Kingdoms. It is up to a handful of heroes to learn the truth behind these killings:

Doctor Adoulla Makhslood, "The last real ghul hunter in the great city of Dhamsawaat," just wants a quiet cup of tea. Three score and more years old, he has grown weary of hunting monsters and saving lives, and is more than ready to retire from his dangerous and demanding vocation. But when an old flame's family is murdered, Adoulla is drawn back to the hunter's path.

Raseed bas Raseed, Adoulla's young assistant, a hidebound holy warrior whose prowess is matched only by his piety, is eager to deliver God's justice. But even as Raseed's sword is tested by ghuls and manjackals, his soul is tested when he and Adoulla cross paths with the tribeswoman Zamia.

Zamia Badawi, Protector of the Band, has been gifted with the near-mythical power of the Lion-Shape, but shunned by her people for daring to take up a man's title. She lives only to avenge her father's death. Until she learns that Adoulla and his allies also hunt her father's killer. Until she meets Raseed.

When they learn that the murders and the Falcon Prince's brewing revolution are connected, the companions must race against time--and struggle against their own misgivings--to save the life of a vicious despot. In so doing they discover a plot for the Throne of the Crescent Moon that threatens to turn Dhamsawaat, and the world itself, into a blood-soaked ruin.
David Brin's first novel in a decade: Existence.
Quote:
As he did in his New York Times bestselling novel Earth, David Brin takes on the rapidly accelerating rate of change in technology in a very human way.

Telepresence. The neural link world wide web, where a flash crowd can gather in an instant if something interesting is happening. We see it today--one man in Pakistan live-tweets the assault on Osama bin Laden, and the whole world turns to watch. A revolution in Egypt is coordinated online.

Into the maelstrom of world-wide shared experience drops a game-changer. An alien artifact is plucked from Earth's orbit; an artifact that wants to communicate. News leaks out fast, and the world reacts as it always does: with fear and hope and selfishness and love and violence.

Existence is packed with tension, with characters we care about in danger that seems unstoppable. It is a novel brimming with ideas about the future, and how humanity will--must--adapt to it. This is a big book from David Brin, and everyone is going to be talking about it.
And Tim Powers' Hide Me Among the Graves (a semi-sequel to The Stress of Her Regard).
Quote:
An ancient evil patrols the skies above the Thames, the Romantic poets unite in battle against the Muses, and a parallel world of magic exists in the London streets...

Awoken by the poet Christina Rosetti, the vampire Polidori is awake once more. Fiercely protective of his beloved Christina, he bestows upon her the gift of divine poetry... but ensures the violent death of any potential rival for his affections.

Trapped by her connection to the undead creature - poised between love, and horror for her immortal soul - Rosetti shuts herself away from the world. But Polidori's abduction of another young girl compels her to join forces against him. With the aid of her brothers, Gabriel and William, and her sister Maria, she enters London's unseen underworld. It is a realm of magically protected human familiars, jealous supernatural beings, and hungry ghosts.

Another one here who devoured the first book. I saw an unofficial release date of 8/28/12 for The Twelve. Hope it's earlier, though.

I don't agree with you! I read all the books and every detail in series was necessarry for the story.

Well, maybe book 10 was bit much. I would merge book 9 and 10.

Yeah, that.

Lesson's learned: Don't. Read. Any. Unfinished. Series.

The Lies of Locke Lamora had been on the top of my TBR list... until I realized that it's the first book in a series of 7 volumes and the 3th one will be published in 2012
The same for Shadow of the Apt and The Wheel of Time.

Yeah, I'm reading the Game of Thrones series right now and trying to take my time with it, even though I want to rush to the end, because I know once I finish book 5 it might be five or six years until the next one.
