That comes from reading too many murder stories. A sure way to detect strangulation is if the Hyoid is broken.

Another medical question:

I have often heard of people having their Spleen removed after an accident, but it never seems to be a major issue. What is the function of the spleen?

It's something to do with the immune system. If you don't have it, i think you're a little bit more susceptible to infections.

Correct. Specifically, it removes old red blood cells and holds a reserve of blood in case of hemorrhagic shock, whilst also recycling iron.
