PRS-650 vs. T-1 - Just Voted
I voted in the most important way. I jsut ordered two refurbished PRS-650s.
One for my wife to replace my PRS-600 (anyone in the marker for a PRS-600?? ![]() And a spare for us, just in case. Maybe the T2 or later will bring me back. |

Is it just because of cost(I'm assuming you got them significantly cheaper than the msrp for the t1)
I cant think of any reason one would get the 650 over the t1, other than cost... and maybe media cards. I mean i have a ton of old memory stick and full size SD cards that are all under 4 or under gigs... but even than it seems silly since a 16gig microsd card is only $20, and the wifi access that allows you to use dropbox would make memorycards pointless anyways. |

Maybe this reason does not affect you, but the PDF handling of the 650 in reflow mode is greatly superior to that of the T1. PDF handling is important for me personally, it may not be for others.

Really? In what way is the reflow on the 650 superior? PDF handling is important to me, and I have to say I'm quite happy with the way the T1 handles PDFs. I don't have a 650, so I don't know what the differences are, but I'm quite curious. PDFs read surprisingly well on my 350, but I bought the T1 because I wanted a reader with a larger screen, and the price was right. I also really like the new fonts that I have on the T1, and the wi-fi is not something I've used often but it is a nice bonus.

BTW, do you study Ancient Greek (looking at your name)? If so, are there any decent electronic textbooks for Greek in EPUB/text PDF (Mastronarde et al)? Graphic scans won't work well on a 6" reader...

On eBay. About the same price to slightly cheaper as a T-1, when you take into account shipping or tax.
1) I don't have any use for wifi. 2) I don't like plastic. 3) I like PRS+ 4) Commonality of platforms. To me, the PRS-650 with PRS+ is just about the perfect reader. |

![]() I make my own pdfs or epubs of greek text cutting and pasting from the TLG (Thesaurus linguae graecae) database, which I use with Diogenes, which is freeware. (It is linked to the Little and Scott lexicon, so if you click on a word it parses it and gives you the full definition as well, it is really handy). As for texts for people beginning to learn Greek, I don't know what is out there. I will check it out and send you a PM, though. Check out these websites, where you can get free and legal ebooks/texts that might be of use to you: www.textkit.com http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/...on:Greco-Roman http://www.dur.ac.uk/p.j.heslin/Software/Diogenes/ Here is the TLG http://www.tlg.uci.edu/ |

1) Is JSTOR accessible for a flat fee also for private individuals (not individual article fees, which are very expensive)? 2) What software do you use to create Ancient Greek epubs? 3) Can Perseus be downloaded and used offline? I already had Diogenes, but thanks for those other links! As for beginner books on Ancient Greek, the ones which I've seen from Textkit, Google Books and the Archive are all old PDF scans, not PDF/epub texts. I've never seen Ancient Greek epubs from the Archive work for me. Inkmesh reveals nothing on Athenaze or Mastronarde, so I will stick to my hard copies. Xaire! |
