Last time I went into a nearby B&N I was shocked by the change. They'd taken out a huge section and put in a bunch of games and toys. It appears that they are trying to do exactly that.

Hmm, that's a good one. I'll have to add it to my repertoire.

Of course, I'll have to carry a box cutter if I try it with my sister. Even then she's likely to call my bluff; she says it's embarrasing enough to be seen in public with me. Doesn't stop her from dragging me along on her scavenger hunts... (sigh)

As to B&N, I wouldn't say selling rugs online is a sign of desperation...yet.
But if they're at the "throw random stuff out to see what sticks" stage, desperation can't be far behind. Their january financials are going to be... interesting...

I think that putting down for a nap may be idiomatic for No American English .

You're the man good buddy!

Thinking about it, there is a bit of parquet at the entry, in the foyer. Was here when I got here. Supposedly very good stuff. Never had to do anything with it. Just like vinyl. I think we priced it at over $15 a foot to extend into the den. (A FOOT) Didn't go any further.

Being the "pack mule" of our family leads me to wonder: How many bags was he carrying at the time?

A real man buys his rugs at Home Depot! Just unroll the length you need from the rug-roll, cut it off with the supplied industrial slicer and take it home in your F350 Ford Pick-up (not the mini-van)

Back to topic, I think this is a dumb move by B&N. I get that they're trying to leverage their web presence but it will end up polluting their brand. B&N should focus on bringing published content, whatever the content, whatever the publisher, whatever the form factor. When I happen upon an interesting article on MIT's Technology Review that happens to be a paid article, there should be a B&N button on that page to allow me to pay via my existing B&N account. Hell, if I see a book on Amazon that B&N doesn't have, I should be able to download it to my nook through B&N, even if an extra retail fee is involved!

There are dozens of ways they can leverage their existing brand and presence without resorting (stooping!) to selling rugs.

One of the Books A Million stores that went in to the old Borders locations in St Louis is like that. Big giant store front, and the books section is just what Borders had for the Children's books and the paper goods. The rest is comics, movies, and video games. It wasn't until I was in the store for a half hour that I realized it wasn't a traditional Books A Million store, but rather a "BAM Play and Trade", which specialized in used goods. A couple weeks later, I was at a work function at another mall (My company had a family day at the NASCAR Speedpark), and I saw a traditional BAM store, and the mix of books, movies, and music, seemed to be on par with any Borders or B&N store I'd been to.

I wish you'd stop pushing this anti rug propaganda. The war on rugs has cost this country millions, and many are locked up for the offense of carrying a small amount of rugs, accusing of planning to resell them. How many children's lives have been ruined because their poor minority father was locked up over soft rugs?
