Sony PRS-T1 "Please Wait"
New reader (replacement for PRS-300) driving me crazy...
Screen is waaay better than 300, but every 3rd or 4th page turn I get a pop-up box saying 'Please Wait'. Eventually, sometimes up to 10 seconds, I get the new page. The same book (PDF) works fine on my 300, and turns pages much faster. I haven't tried other books yet - soon. Anyone else having this issue? (I occasionally get the multi-page turn/skipping issue, but no crashes yet) Mike |

I have no PDF's on my T1, only epub novels, and have not had that problem. I read a lot, several hours per day in general and have not experienced what you describe.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=153378 So far there isn't too much specific information there, except that reflow and untagged PDFs seem to make matters worse. Did you reflow your PDF, and do you know if it is tagged? @Kai Winters AFAIK this applies only to PDFs... |

Hello,
Yes, it was a re-flowed PDF, approx 330pages long. I'm reading another re-flowed PDF now, that is much better - only get the 'Please Wait...' message about once every 10 pages, and more briefly. Have to say, though, that even when I don't get the message, the page turn is almost exactly the same speed as my PRS-300. I have placed them side by side, with the same PDF and hit the 'next page' button - both complete in roughly the same time. Anyway, the screen quality is so much better that I'm still happy with the upgrade. |

Thank you for the info, hopefully I'll be picking up a T1 either this Friday or as soon as possible. Since I'm in Canada, I have to wait a bit! I'll eventually post my results as compared to my 950.

Hey! A possible fix for you would be downloading the calibre - Ebook manager, that way you can convert the pdf into an ePub format, might do the trick, look better and more organized for you

Hey Neek, thanks for the idea, but converting from PDF to EPUB in Calibre usually goes badly wrong for the cases I've tried in the past. It's not so simple for me to avoid PDF, because I have a lot of papers and articles in PDF format. Also, I've downloaded a lot of Google books in PDF format, so good PDF support in an ereader is a MUST for me. That's why I'm disappointed in the reports on the T1 for PDF support. I'll try and get my hands on one today, and return it if it's unacceptable. I'll eventually post my results.

You should still be able to use the pdf2lrf tool that was floating around a while back, and the new readers should still read the format (but double check this). Converting PDFs results in very true layouts and quicker page turns.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18968 https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91865 Well, I just got my T1 yesterday night, but could only play around with it for an hour and a half or so. Disappointingly, very simple text PDFs seem quite taxing when reflowed, but reading EPUBs was a great experience. I use buttons for page turning, and had no "fast page turns" or freezing after reading an EPUB for one hour. Ditching PDF is simply not an option for me, so I might just use this as a backup or return it. Oh how I love my 950, which seems to be MUCH better for PDFs out of the box! Sony disappointed me here... |

First, T1 doesn't support lrf.
Second, pdf2lrf allows to convert pdf to zipped set of png files, each png a graphic snapshot of 90 degree rotated halfpage. One can combine all png files into single pdf and read it from landscape oriented reader. |
