PRS 650 or wait for T1?

Hi...

I currently have a PRS505 which is great but it's starting to go slow etc and I am thinking about buying a second / backup reader. Is the 650 ok or am I better off with the new model? I don't need any fancy extras as I just like to read fiction.

Thanks!!!

Unless you really really want one made of aluminium, I'd say definitely wait. Not only will you have the more up-to-date product (even though there aren't that many improvements), it will save you a lot of money, as the T-1 is much cheaper than the PRS-650!

I would wait too unless you happen to find a really good clearance deal on the 650 somewhere.

I agree with the others. I don't have a 650 (have a 350) but it sure sounds like the new TS1 is worth waiting for....Unless like the others have said you find a good bargain.

And for myself, I'd get a 650 now and avoid the T1.

-T1 has wi-fi, but I'm perfectly happy sideloading all my books from Calibre.
-T1 has a few fonts you can change to, but no idea if they'll be fonts you'll like where you'll want to change them to something else. You have full font control and can install any font you like if you install PRS+ on the 650, so the fonts aren't even a consideration.
-T1 has a high gloss finish, which is a huge disadvantage to me while reading, I'm always tilting the reader trying to eliminate the glare from it. Yes, you can spend more money and install a skin over it, but why should you have to just to read comfortably.
-650 has a metal front, which helps prevent accidental flexing of the screen and breaking it as easily; T1 is plastic, tradeoff is that it's lighter than the 650, but the 650 is still one of the lightest weight 6" readers available.
-T1 also has that curved bottom, which I personally just detest and wouldn't buy it just for that reason alone even if it didn't have the high gloss finish to it.
-T1 has the dual touch screen, again, nothing I need. Once I set a size to read a book at, it stays at that size and I don't need a touch-zoom function.
- The T1's screen is no improvement over the 650, it's the same.

So yeah, for myself, I'm looking for a spare 350 or possibly even a 650 on sale and will avoid the T1 altogether.

I don't know what the situation is like in Hong Kong but here in the UK you would be lucky to find a 650 for sale.

If it is the same there you might have to wait for the T1 anyway.

IF the T1 has Android, it might be worth waiting for, as then it could be rooted and a much better reading application used. Just for that possibility I would wait.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the responses.

My sister lives in Australia and she found one for A$299, which is quite expensive and adds to my dilemma.

I guess my only real requirement is e-ink and i couldn't find the specs for the T1...so was a little worried about the screen view if the T1 was android.

My sister in law bought a Hanvon and it was just not as nice as the Sony. It came across a bit 'cheap' and the quality of the print wasnt so great. So i'd really like to stay with a sony product.

Anyway, thanks again!

I can ease your mind on the screen question: the T-1 has exactly the same screen as the PRS-650. Whether it's driven by Android (software) is unclear, but that is of no consequence for the type and quality of the EInk screen.

Very very very very very very very unlikely.
I'd say Bill Gates being an alien is more likely than that.

Maybe he is, he never did seem quite human to me

I haven't been reading all the news on the T-1 (as I only bought a 650 4 months ago), but I wouldn't put my money on the android rumour either. It's just that I can't exclude the possibility, remote though it might be

I have a 650, and based on the reports, I would love to pick up another 650.
