I'd love to get a Kindle Touch for the kids for Christmas. I think they'd rather have xbox games and Barbies. But I have plenty of time....also waiting for reviews.

I understand that it is a given that I'm not going to see a lot of difference between a wifi vs a 3G due to the limits on 3g internet assess on new Touch 3g. However, I still travel around enough that I feel I need more than a wifi only version. Wifi is not always available when I need a new book fix (download). I just hope that someone can jailbreak the Touch so I get my screensaver images which I really like and will miss from my Kindle3. I'm not sure how I will feel about the advertising "special" stuff but time will tell. The invoice said it will ship on Nov 21 and that a long way out.

Yes, from Lenovo (their laptops are pretty good, I hear). It's called the ideapad or some such. It even has GPS without need for net connection.

I think it was 249, but they dropped it to 199. Anyway, I'm sure we'll see more choices and price drops by Xmas.

I have one on order, WiFi with special offers, and a purple lighted case. These items along with a $50 Kindle GC are for my mom's birthday on Dec. 5th.

I'm not sold on it yet. Maybe if/when there's a dynamite sale, I have a ton of GC credit, or my current Kindle craps out....but until then, I don't really see much of a point.

This story, dated yesterday, says that they're shooting themselves in the foot by raising the price above that of the Fire. And the big problem? It's single-core.

No, I simply do not think that you're going to see a dual-core tablet at this price point that has all the extra bells and whistles that people clamor for. The only reason amazon can do it is because of their vertical integration: they sell the Fire for a loss, knowing they'll make it up, and more, in content sales.

Wow, they pulled the A1 from their website. I was looking at it last night! Now the page can't be found. Doing a search on the site for A1 redirects you to the K1. What the heck?

My guess is that the Fire killed it. They're not going to compete in the 200 or less space, and how can they? They don't have content to offer to make up for the low prices. The K1 has all the usual features @399. They'll still sell some.

The A1 is on the Lenovo site. I guess they changed page links.

I pre-ordered a Kindle Touch shortly after the Amazon event, but canceled it this week because I'm not sure the touch interface would work well for me. I've been watching how I hold the K3 and my fingers brush the screen quite a bit. I've also realized that I really like its size and how it rests in my hands with the leather folio folded back. I'll probably sit this wave out and enjoy the K3 for another year at least.

Hmm. I guess they're giving up on it. Maybe they'll be coming out with something new soon to compete with the new Kindles.

It does not make much sense to me. If they added something it would make the Ideapad A1 more expensive and the cheapest model with 2Gb was already raised from $199 to $229 before it went out of market (temporarilly as they say). $229 is already a hard price to compete with a $199 Kindle Fire, if not to say a non-competitive price. Anything above that means Lenovo has given up on trying to compete with the kindle fire.

If it came with no camera or mic, maybe it could compete with the Kindle fire, for a lower price, with the advantage of not being inside the Amazon cage...
