This particular plugin only allows itself to show an icon/entry when the Device is Connected.

The problem some users have seems to be that when they first install the plugin they are asked where to put the icon but they don't select a location. Then they can't find it on the toolbar. And then when they go to add it to the toolbar, the icon isn't available on the toolbar main menu without a device connected and its not clear that you need to change the dropdown.

The first confusion comes from the prompt to the user to select a location to store the icon. The first entry in the list 'appears' to be selected so the user hits OK, but it isn't really selected. Perhaps we should force the user to select where to put the icon/entry, or add it to a default location if no location is selected, or warn the user that they haven't selected a location and must add it later. Obviously if they missed reading the screen that says select a location they are likely to miss reading any other screens, so selecting a default might be a good approach.

The second confusion about the size/use of the dropdown has already been discussed (I missed that the new larger text was a dropdown at first as well). For this plugin its an issue because the icon doesn't appear as available on the main toolbar. I could allow it there, although if you tried to use any function it would just give an error message that you need to have a device connected. And when a device was connected the icon would disappear leading to different confusion, unless it was automatically added to both toolbars.

The below quote refers to the dropdown menu being slightly altered in a way that should help folks find the various menus they can customize.

Out of curiosity and ignorance - I understand all the edit collection contents type screens and preview reports would be disabled, but would it not be possible to still allow the screen which you configure your collection naming & options on?

There have been a couple of times where to help other people out I wanted to double-check exactly what settings I had, but of course only able to do that if I dug out my Kindle and plugged it in. I can't recall all the functionality of that particular screen off the top of my head, but does that particular one *need* to have a Kindle present? Does it not just read and write to the configuration file?

The plugin saves your customizations per Library and per Kindle. So it needs to have the Kindle attached to know which customization set to use.

Many thanks for the great plugin. I successfully managed to put my font but here goes my question: with alt the jump between Aa - the 3rd and 4th from the left is too big for me. Meaning 3rd Aa is a tad too small and 4th is too big. With original setting 3rd Aa size was ok.

Now I would like to have something in between. Tried to manage settings and put font size at 18, at 14 even but there is no effect and when I replug it plugin opens at "modify" with font set at 25 (the first few times it was 21) Yes I noticed description of default Kindle fonts set at 17,18, 21 etc while I was meddling with it. Depends on the font I chose?
Is there a way to enlarge the 3rd Aa in any way? If not I will have to get used to 4th. I'm sorry if it was already discussed, if so just please tell me look up the posts before (too late too tired right now)

You're welcome.

I've no idea how to control the size of the font beyond setting the sizes in the Kindle's configuration file so unfortunately I can't provide any help. Perhaps the available sizes are defined by the font itself.

Hello, this is my first posting, I am also relatively new to Kindles and not at all technical so please be gentle with me.

I have installed the plugin and created a new column, which I believe from trawling through these postings, is necessary. I also have the icon on the toolbar.

However, I don't understand what I have to do to 'select the Action to Create for the column(s) I want to use' when creating collections from the icon menu? I can see the collections I've already created on the Kindle when I select 'edit collections manually'. I've searched & tried various options but this first simple step escapes me.

Apologies to all for asking such a dumb question but I'm desperate now!

I don't have a Kindle and don't use this plugin, but there is no need for "trawling." You should find all the info you need to use the plugin in the very first post of this thread.

I appreciate all the information given in the first posting and have read thoroughly BUT I don't understand the intructions to 'set the action of the required field to create.'

Nowhere on any of the 'author,' titles', 'tags' etc can I find an instruction to 'create'. I'm sorry but I really would really appreciate some basic help.

I may be way off but here is my SWAG at this problem. I can't run it since it requires a kindle to be connected, but it says "Select Customize", I'm guessing this opens a popup window with a grid, one of the columns is "Action" set this column to "Create" next to whichever item you wish to use for collections.

Hopefully someone with firsthand knowledge will answer you soon.

Exactly as dwanthy says, if you click on the plugin's icon you should see a menu list of items - one of them is Customize. Once you click that there is a list of calibre fields including your Custom Column. The first column in the table is 'Action' and its a drop down selection list that includes '' (blank/none), Create, and Delete. Select 'Create' - this tells the plugin to Create collections based on this calibre field. Save it, and then use the 'Preview Collections' to view what you will create before running 'Create Collections'. Of course, you need to put some information into your custom column (either by manually typing it, or using Import Collections to use the data on your Kindle).

I never liked having to use a drop-down to select none/Create/Delete and much preferred it when I only had a checkbox - but feature requests such as they are meant it was needed when people wanted to delete entries as well...
