PRS-T1 T1 for daughter is charging

a little off-topic, my apologies: I miss the dark blue metallic PRS-505. I actually bought and still own and use the silver 505 (and salivated when the red was released), but I did love the dark blue, it made a nice frame against the screen and made the screen appear whiter when set next to the silver. I chose the silver because the dark blue demo unit had chipped off in places and showed a different color underneath, white or something.. not pretty! But if I'd been able to keep it pristine.. gorgeous color for a reader.

anyways, going back to the T1.. I probably shouldn't hold my breath waiting for a matte version to be released, but it does seem like Sony made a huge mistake releasing it in shiny plastic. The glare is one thing, but I can imagine the dust and fingerprints that shiny black accumulates. Maybe the red or white will be better, and I could be persuaded into buying the red version, but not white--I'm not a fan of white readers (the first Kindles) because at least from comparing 505s, I do know that a dark bezel makes the e-ink screen look whiter. Of course, day by day I doubt you would ever notice. But I've cancelled my order for the Kindle Touch 3G SO, and I'll see what magic the Sony Reader devs can do with this Android-based reader. User-uploaded fonts, and possible Kindle reader app would be nice. I'll probably buy one.

A tap can leave a fingerprint. A swipe does not leave a fingerprint most of the time. So you'll be wiping the screen less with swiping vs tapping.

My red 505 is almost 3 years old and still looks new - not a chip anywhere, and it's even been dropped on hard surfaces a few times.

I'm waiting for the red T1 - I still wish it was metal, but the feature set looks wonderful, so I'm reconciling myself.

I like shiny, but if you hate it, I'm sure decalgirl will have skins eventually.

I fully admit that dust and fingerprints are a slight issue with my black metal 650.

As for white, recently a saw another bus passenger reading from a white Kindle with a black skin, which looked rather snazzy inside a black cover - just enough contrast so the who thing wasn't a sea of blackness.

Sony Style shows the red ones shipping now. White is still 10//16.

BTW for anyone having access to AAFES, the price is $129 for the black or red PRS-T1

That's what I saw too. I did order the black cover for my black Sony. It is suppose to ship. We'll see. I'm afraid to use my new TS1 without a cover.

Thanks for the info, didn't know I assumed they were all released now.

As far as I'm concerned there's two tipes of shiny: Good shiny and bad shiny. Good shiny looks fresh and vibrant. Any examples? Well, ehm, my dad's car after he's polished it. Bad shiny on the other hand... just looks cheap. Like someone wearing too much makeup.

This last reader from sony is definitely bad shiny in my opinion. Which is a pity, since I've always thought that most of the sony readers looked so much better than the kindles. But I have to admit that based purely on looks I'd much rather go for the kindle touch than the t1. I guess that a skin from Decalgirl will do the trick, though. Including shipping to Europe that's gonna be a 20-30 bucks extra for the reader... but no way I'm spending the next years reading on a bad-looking device.

It seems it is time to replace my 505.

A few questions:
1. Is the dictionary as easy to use as on the 350/650? Please describe in detail the steps needed to bring it up for a word in a book.
2. Cover - how is it attached to the reader? Does it come with any kind of sleeve?
3. Can you charge the device with an USB cable that is not attached to a computer? This does not work for the 505, the other end of the USB must be a computer to charge it.
4. Is the normal (non-usb) charger the same as for the 350 / 505?
5. How is the web browsing experience - I mostly read articles on the web, is the reader suitable for this, or is it a pain to use?
6. Is there a web based vendor that ships it internationally from the US?

But I just received notice that my card had been charged for the reader, so apparently the red T1s are beginning to ship after all!
