Of course they did. If it weren't working they'd have discontinued it by now.

It's still displayed prominently on their front page an in the front of their stores with new models introduced and more on the way assuming the rumors are true.

I live in Peru, but have a U.S. address and everything else that allows me to purchase and download ebooks from Amazon.

Question:
What will I NOT be able to do with the Kindle Fire if I leave it as it is regarding the feature-set it currently has?

Thanks,
Don

Don, I can't answer definitively, but I'd suspect anything you can currently do with your Kindle you'll be able to do with a Kindle Fire. Cloud Streaming Movies might be iffy though.

I suspect they will have a similar attitude about jail breaking. They won't go out of there way to encourage it. New software updates will not attempt to make old jailbreaks backwards compatible. But you won't see weekly anti-jailbreak patches.
Amazon is pretty much copying Apple's strategy here, and they certainly like a closed system-witness the Kindle.
Will Amazon be agressive about stopping rooting? Dunno. COULD they be aggressive , based on the idea that they dont wan't their device (which is most likely being sold at no more than breakeven) used to buy Google market apps , B&N books, and movies from Netflix?
Doesn't really seem unreasonable to me.

As always, you should expect Amazon to act not according to their public pronoucements (which are PR exercises) but in regard to their self-interest.

Did not generate any sales from those who rooted the device.

Added for clarification.

Thank you for that, but still I would be skeptical that is true. I do not own a B&N device, but bought my first ebook from them and read it on my computer, have the Nook App installed on my Xoom and it has gotten quite good with recent releases. And I have bought a number of books from them over the last couple of years, but I will admit that most of my money for books goes to or through(used books) Amazon.

And while my Sony Reader is probably my favorite, I've bought the fewest books from them.

Now all you need to do is add a little logic and facts.

I don't know the answer here Don, but from what I've seen I don't think you will have any issues.

The silk browser seems to go through their proxy servers. They have complete control over what they allow. It's not like the nook Color that has an open connection--proxied when using their WIFI at B&N)

I suspect, because Amazon benefits from collecting data about their users you will be able to use the device freely so long as you have a valid Amazon account.

The nook market blows chunks. 100 fricken apps. Would you rather root and run another app market that gives you thousands of apps, or keep the one with 100?

As far as ebooks go, I've not known too many to switch to Kindle, but there is something to be said about that too. With the cloud reader, iphone and android apps, the pc reader, etc they can access their books in more places than the nook books.

I went to stock Android because the nook GUI was horrible. However I did install the Kindle for Android(K4A) and the Nook App(Ironiclly many folks including myself thought the nook 4 Android was better than the stock nook reader).

For me it was never about giving my business to Amazon it was about freedom to chose where I wanted to buy books from.

Yes, as regards the apps, and non rooted tabs, but there is nothing more techie friendly than the NC's ability to boot from the SD card.
