It arrived today! Upgraded to emine just now. I've been practicing all week on the 10" EE we've got at work (we use it to test epubs) It certainly is cute. Now to fill it with books and games for my wife and kids. :-)

Key points for new wooter/edge owners:

- use the 'touch four corners' to get past the initial setup registration.
- get the ermine beta on there - it's worth it
- Use Adobe Digital Editions on the desktop (w/ Wine under Linux if you're like me) to activate the device for DRMed content (need to use wineconfig to map a drive letter as 'floppy' before launching ADE - then it'll see it)
- if you need to protect investment in purchased bits, consider finding the inept decoding scripts - they work.

Watched a video on it today to a) see how well that performs and b) test battery life.

It was a 43 minute TV show (first episode of The Dresden Files lol) played from a USB thumb drive. Video quality not perfect (just a wee bit of shutter lag), but surprisingly acceptable!!

Battery status: 96% at start and 70% at finish -- not bad, I don't think.

I'm experimenting w/ video as well. I've got high quality rips of some workout DVDs - basically 480p (720x480) - they don't work well at all: think slideshow. I've been transcoding them to lower frame rates as resolution. 480x272 works, and is plent for this. Not sure I'd want to downsample an actual movie that much though.

I experimented with about 8 different presets - one was definitely a slide show lol and got deleted right away. The others are all good with the best being 3gp with a resolution of 800x480 and frame rate at 25 fps.

It plays beautifully - fills the screen, almost no shutter lag and in perfect sync.

I just looked under properties for the last one I transcoded and it shows 638x480 resolution with a data rate of 907 kpbs and a bit rate of 1019. Hmmm.

A 50 min. TV episode comes in around 350MB or so. A 1-1/2 hour movie is around a gig, give or take. A tad more for a 2-hour film. I play them from a USB drive and the audio isn't bad at all.

As soon as I get another MicroSD card, I'll do a side-by-side comparison with my Nook. I so wish it took a USB drive.
