Turn around, don't whisper out my name
For like a breeze, it'd stir a dying flame
I'll miss someone, if it eases you to know
So close the door lightly when you go
Who was the one that stole my mind ?
Who was the one that robbed my time ?
Who was the one who made me feel unkind ?
So fare thee well, sweet love of mine
Take your tears to someone else's eyes
They're made of glass
And are cut like wounded lies
Memories are drifting like the snow
But close the door lightly when you go
Don't look back to where you once hade been
Look straight ahead
When you're walking through the rain
And find a light
If the path gets dark and cold
But close the door lightly when you go.

Good morning, everyone! Happy Monday! Sunshine outside, happy smiling fish inside, fresh croissants on the table and a big mug of East India Company's "Keemun Downy Bud" beside it. What a wonderful way to start the day!

Yes, quite. But we yet are required to monitor ourselves in language and deportment. So far, I don't think anyone has been banned for anything in this thread. At least not that I'm aware of. And it's the only thread that that I know of where I need to go back three pages just to see the posts made while I slept. There is certainly a lot more activity in this thread than most, and we have managed to keep it a step or two below "X" rated. I think we're doing O.K...

I believe there is only one person in the world one can really love, really be devoted to.
Wow! Do I ever disagree! I've fallen head over heels in love with four women in my life, and married three of them. None of the marriage dissolved because of lack of love. We simply grew in different directions, and remain good friends to this day.

Quote:
I do not regret that I stayed/stay away from my parents. I think I am a bad son, but it is my life and I have only one. I do feel sorry for my parents though. Children meant a world for them
I feel exactly the same way. And later in life my mother even agreed with me, as she came to discover her own life, rather than one that centered on her children. I like the analogy found in the book "The Prophet," in the chapter on children. To wit; parents are like a bow and children the arrow. Parents aim the bow as best they can, but then must let the arrow fly however it will. The arrow can not be fulfilled staying next to the bow.

This recent topic (that I started, I guess) has been surprising to me. Maybe it's a regional thing, maybe it's economic, or maybe it's my age group... I don't know. I have many real life friends who are taking care of aging parents, though. No big drama or anything, just a part of everyday life. It seems to be not the norm on here at all. Interesting.

Tap water in my cup, although I just finished a cup of pomegranate yogurt. Yum.

No, obviously you two are with L&G.

I gave all the Earl Grey box to my sister. I said, "hey this has Bergamot orange and you might like it".
So far, she hasn't returned it.

Coffee this morning. It has been raining for 12 hours straight. Glorious day.

Cultural, perhaps, as well. I'm Croatian, and many elderly people in Croatia are taken care of by family members, especially those who don't live in cities; they'll often hire a helper if they need extra help, too. My husband's family even took care of their elderly great aunt. I like that tradition. Children tend to be especially attached to their grandparents there, as the grandparents in turn play a huge role in raising their grandchildren.

What, nuts? You dare say you took a vacation when we're all working hard to type very on-topic posts about marriage, family and children and religion and politics and whether we should have an adults-only forum here? Where were you when things went bananas?

My cup currently has bottled water. Well, it's still in the bottle, but that's what I'm drinking. My head is pounding from a caffeine headache but it's way too late for that tonight. I'm such an addict....

And perhaps all of the above! I grew up in NYC. There, because of the insanely high rents it's common for children to live with parents until they get married, or if not married, to remain at home and care for the parents. But when I moved to California in my early 20's I was surprised to find that when a child turns 18, the parents make it almost a party event to help the kids find their own places away from the parents. From that point on, the parents are on their own too. Purely economic. (Obviously there are plenty of families who don't follow this too.)

In S.E. Asia, it is the children's OBLIGATION (as well as delight) to care for ALL the elderly of the family, not just parents. This, even if they have to prostitute themselves to get the money to do so. Purely cultural.

I think this world of ours is a fascinating place!

It frightens me to realize that I may have been the Voice of Reason. I may have to surrender my "Hippie ID."

Time for some afternoon High Country Ceylon Uva tea as I prepare to make more noise.

, this sounds good !

The sierra in front of our house burned the whole night. The canadair cannot fly at night, so they had to wait until 7 this morning to start. There is now an incessant movement over our heads. The fire is not out yet, it is moving in direction of Marbella. We had a really scary night, not knowing if the wind could turn (but we are new here, so apparently the wind was not going to turn, or we would have been evacuated). We had a 180° view of the fire, it was huge and spectacular, but not in a nice way.
Now we are looking at a big chunk of black . Thank god, no victims, but houses have been lost. And the fire was intentional.
