She's pretty smart. That's why she married me.

I do think that one or two of the moderators could be 'a bit more moderate...' But I do recognize that it is NOT an easy job. I think it would be a good thing to institute a warning system... I know that when one of my posts was misinterpreted by a mod and removed, after I explained what was meant the thread was reinstated but in a different sub-forum. But that wouldn't have happened had I been simply banned for my post and not had the opportunity to state my case.

Again, a subject on which I could say plenty, but will instead shut my delicious mouth (do you think they have an alert system that wakes them up if the words "mouth" and "delicious" are in the same sentence ?) and will keep instead the food porn going (yeah, I am curious like that... does the word porn will make them react ....? ).

On the children subject, being jewish of course I smother them, all normal here. Not counting the "mom, stop that, I can't breath" anymore, thinking of instauring a safe word like I used to have in my SM time ( kidding again, can't help it, feeling very cheeky indeed today ) instead . Superman knows better and never asks the fatal question anymore, because I once told him the truth : I love him very deeply, more than I have ever loved any man (the competition is not big here, but shhhhhhhh, don't tell him, he still thinks he caught the grand prize), but our children come waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy before him.

I used to be an executive manager in a well-known multinational. Being french, born around May 68, I was convinced that I could manage everyting easy, superjob and superkids, no problem here, we were taught this at school for heavensake !!. When I met superman (love at first sight, litterally), love, trains, planes, blablabla, tears, blabla, let's move together (him), where (me), here (him). He had a small company in Germany, I was in my last year in business school, one year in Germany "to learn the language" made sense. Ten years later, his business is doing super good, I am super manager, we get super baby. He takes care of super baby (really well I must say) without any help, takes him everywhere, I go on travelling around, but crying in hotel rooms at night.
Petit Prince goes to Kindergarten, Petite Princesse arrives, same scenario, one day I come home to them from a crazy work week spent between Singapour, Frankfurt and Miami ("see the world in 7 days") and Petite Princesse is now walking. And I completely missed it.
That was the water drop.
Spent one year elaborating ideas how to stop that craziness, another stopping it actually.

To cut a long story short: the time I now spend with them is the best time in my life, it is also the best investment ever. Not for my future, but for theirs, and for the family ties, because we get every day to share something new, and being a fatalist I also keep thinking that I might not always be there for them, but at least I can give them the most of me now.

Oh, uups. What was the subject again ? Ah, yes, Café con leche. And if my pasta is not al dente, I won't have it.

Even 'knowledge' about 'a safe word' tells us the truth.

Family is dandy. Enjoy it!

Doesn't anyone use the 'throw it against the wall' method of testing?

Coke Zero #1 for me, of course.

Hey — today I get all three of my children back in the house for a couple of days. It's a rare event these days, with the oldest two off at University or visiting friends.

Will they stick around, or just ask to borrow the car keys and a few pounds, like most college kids today?

Iced tea before dinner... Strange Chinese dish bubbling in my brains...

They'll be around for a few days. And they're really very well behaved.

... and then I get to drive them back to their Universities for the new academic year.

Just finished: Coke Zero #2

OJ this morning.

Stitchawl: I choose a College 6 hours and 30 minutes away from my parents so that I would have a bit more freedom. They told me I could no further then a 6 hour drive so I pushed the limit. I don't think I was actually worried about seeing them a lot but it was important to me to be as far away as I could be.

And then I made sure they came to visit once a semester. Dad would take me grocery shopping and he would buy booze for me....

Now I am a few thousand miles from my parents. I moved for career reasons and because I am not a huge fan of Southern California but I do wish that I was closer to them.

A more adult forum area would be nice but probably won't happen because it could easily get out of control. I don't think that there is much wrong with recognizing that the board wants to be family friendly and conforming with that.

I moderated a board or two, was even paid. It sucks. Nothing you do is right. You are bound to piss someone off. (shrugs)

I would love to have one. I have been thinking about it too but one has to be realistic. We will never get one here, so I zip it.

On the other hand, I like to call thing as they are. This is an adult forum regardless what they call it

I finished school when I was 16 years old (I started the school one year earlier than others). I could go to a university in Ukraine. My dad had friends over there and they told him that I would be accepted no problem.
No way! I choose Moscow to be as far from my parents as possible (1250km – 24h on train).
In Israel I stayed away and fend for myself for as long as it was possible (6 years). After the Army service I came to my parents flat. I told myself that it would be 2 years maximum. When I saved enough money to re-enter the University I would be off. Then I met my future wife over the Internet and the plans changed. 2 years turned out to be 5 years. My parents treated me differently. Also, they were old and ill…but now I am even further away from them then I ever planned to be.
They are sincerely happy for me or my brother who is in Canada. However, they are deeply unhappy to live without us. My mother was always like

For the life of me I could not understand this attitude. My brother and I were and are the reason my mother lives for. To a certain degree my dad too (although wife was/is always before children, albeit following very very closely). Typical Jewish family?
I believe there is only one person in the world one can really love, really be devoted to. That’s why when I read The Shadow of the Wind, I got goose bumps and still get them when I read this quote “One loves truly only once in a lifetime, Julián, even if one isn’t aware of it.” Nobody can substitute the second half. Children, parents, friends…don’t come even close.
I read this today:
Quote:
We were given: Two hands to hold. To legs to walk. Two eyes to see. Two ears to listen. But why only one heart? Because the other was given to someone else. For us to find.
Unknown
I do not regret that I stayed/stay away from my parents. I think I am a bad son, but it is my life and I have only one. I do feel sorry for my parents though. Children meant a world for them and what they have now? Alone and ill in Israel? Both of us left them? They would be better off if they lived a full life when they could instead of investing into us. They disagree with me and regret they don't have one more...

Oh well,
my cup is empty. Green Pu-erh was in there. I am off to make another cuppa.
