(hugs) It is hard to lose people that we loved at one time. It sounds like you have some wonderful memories of your friend and you are enjoying them.

Well... the relationship between niece and aunt is never easy, esp. if the aunt is 19.

So, very strong and sweet black coffee for me at 5:30 pm. That'll help the eyelids open this evening... hopefully.
As one who was an Aunt young, your job is to spoil them (within reason) Whatever activity she loves to do that her parents limit her on is what she gets to do whenever you want to do something else. For my nieces and nephews that is watching tv or playing video games. When they come to my place there are video games, quiet reading (they all actually enjoy it), and trips for burgers and fries. They have a good time, I enjoy my time with them, and we all gain weight. But I am the coolest Aunt ever.

Seriously, my nephew brags about me to his friends and they have actually told me that they want me as an aunt. I would be even cooler but he is not allowed to play Call of Duty and other such games. There are limits. (winks)

Amen to that. I've just returned from a couple of days out of town -- I took my mother up to the mountains for a little getaway. She is mostly in a wheelchair now when we go out, and dealing with that is pretty physically demanding for me. I kind of feel like I've been run over by a truck today, lol, but I strongly agree with what kk says. This is the time that I have with her and it may not last too much longer, so I'm determined to make it quality time if I can. I'm glad we're so close, and glad that I'm able to be here to take care of her. Lots of people are not so lucky. But wow, my arms and legs are tired today!
I wish I was closer to my parents. Mom has gone through lung cancer and some heart scares the last five years. It is hard living a 5 hour plane ride away. But my job and husband are here and relocating would be difficult. And neither of us want to live where my parents live. So I go home about 4 times a year for at least four days. They are able to travel still so they come here a few times a year.

I have been making an effort to read the books she is reading in her book club so that we can talk books on the phone. It is not much but it is what I can do.

I've been wondering when he comes back.

In "No words allowed" thread, he posted a picture which was removed by a moderator. I didn't make it to see the picture but I heard it was a very, very naughty one.

It was. I was not hungry.

My old breakfast was rolled oats MWed in water with a pinch of salt and a banana sliced and thrown in. The oats were the only cereals for the whole day, and it should stay like that.

Now that I am going on raw food and smoothies, I have to rethink the whole thing. During the week I do not have time in the morning. I have to wake up little girl, fix her breakfast, dress her up and take her to school (15 minutes drive) for 8.40, so that I can get the 9.11 train to work.
Biggirl wakes me up at 7.07 so that I can say hello, check her attire (she trusts my taste in clothes), put her out of the house and re-close the gates (we do not want the automatic gates with a small child yet). At the latest, I have to wake up Littlegirl at 8.00. First thing I have a coffee while on the net till 7.30. Then I have half an hour for breakfast, carwash and dressing.

I am thinking of having as a standard breakfast a smoothie (I have to design a few that are easy to make, tasty and nutritious and that carry me till lunch time) and maybe a slice of home made bread (maybe, but just maybe with a thin slice of cheese). Of wich I am without, but I have Swedish crackers, of rye and of oat. So that in the few minutes that the smoothie makes itself, I can do some little chores. Time management.

Consider that he's been suspended for nearly a week now, that must be a very serious problem.

EDIT: I just noticed that Bilbo1967 is suspended too

apart from this thread (which I now just simply adore), this place is getting sicker by the minute. And not necessarily because of the posters.

I don't know when you have been living in Germany and for how long, but I lived permanently there the last 20 years and only moved last june to Spain. The big trend in Germany is very clearly to "betreutes Wohnen", which translated is something like sheltered living for elderly, which permits older people to keep their independence living in special residences in their own flats equipped with a panic button with a medical team on the premises 24/7. My mother in law lives in one of those, so do all her friends (which is why she decided on her own to move there, although she is perfectly healthy).
In the Eiffel, a region I know well, which is still totally countryside, you may have elderly living with their children, or more often the children live not far away from their parents, but mostly because they own land and work in the agriculture, so they have interests in common.
In the cities, betreutes Wohnen is absolutely normal. So normal, as a matter of fact, and so used, that it is considered one of the last very good investment for investors looking for good business opportunity to park their money. Our bank keeps sending us leaflets about those.

In Spain, if your old parent is not living next door or in your house, everyone thinks it is shameful and let you know. The "abuelos" are pretty much in charge of their grandkids, thus no professional babysitting here.
Retirement houses are very, very rare, and when, it is the extranjeros (the foreigners) that live in them.

I am married to a german guy, so it is not a criticism on my part, just a comment.
