I know what it is, but I googled to confirm, so I'll not post the answer. Just to say I watched another of the director's's movies last week. Top drawer stuff.

Quote:
Another movie by the same director (probably better known) starts with the lines "This is the universe. Big, isn't it?" And before you get all Hitchhikers on me, that movie is from 1946, and was to become the first ever Royal Film Performance. (It has a different US title to the UK one.) Given I got the quote slightly wrong (according to imdb -- the quote was from memory and I don't have the DVD to hand at the moment), I'm happy with either the original film or the one mentioned above, with either title (hey, I'm letting you have three potential right answers; what more could you want?). The correct quote (cut and pasted from IMDB) is: "Not poor, they just haven't got money. " (to help googlefu for those that want to!) It's said by the hero, who gets an eagle named after him, and who ends up falling foul of a terrible curse at the end of the movie ;-} |

I have no idea what this movie is, but the more clues you provide, the more bizarre it sounds - I'm probably going to have to watch it now!

No takers?
The original film is "I Know Where I'm Going". Since the quote "This is the universe. Big, isn't it." is also causing problems, here's an easy one (that I guess may already have been given): "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses." (And yes, I checked it this time.) |

Congratulations! Your turn.
(And for those wondering: "This is the universe. Big, isn't it." is from A Matter of Life and Death, probably the best film in the world (okay, one of the best films in the world)! |

A matter of Life and Death is the movie I'd recently watched when answering your previous thread, LazyScot. Excellent...

Cheers, and thanks for the karma, LazyScot! Tres kind.
Here's the next movie dialogue quote from probably one of the most bizarre yet strangely quotable movies ever made: "A lot of people don't realize what's really goin' on. They view life as a bunch of unconnected incidents 'n things. They don't realize that there's this, like... Lattice of Coincidence that lays on top of everything... Give you an example, show you what I mean: Suppose you're thinkin' about a... plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, 'Plate,' or 'Shrimp' -- or 'Plate o' shrimp' -- just out of the blue. No explanation... No point in lookin' for one, either... It's all part of a... cosmic unconciousness..." "...You eat a lot of acid, Miller? Back in the hippie days?" |

No one's guessed it so far, so here are some more lines. If no one gets it after this, I'll try a different movie:
1) "Come on, Duke. Let's go do those crimes." "Yeah... Yeah! Let's go sushi -- and not pay!" 2) "I'd rather die standing than live on my knees!" 3) [Woman picks up a chair to throw down on a bad guy] BAD GUY: "Not my face!" COP: "Freeze! Drop it, Marlene!" [She throws the chair down HARD, where it bounces out of frame after hitting something] BAD GUY (offscreen): "My face!" 4) (As he lays dying, coughing up blood next to no-frills labeled cereal boxes marked "Tasteos" and simply "Food"): "...The lights are growing dim... I know a life of crime has led me to this sorry fate. And yet... I blame the society! Society made me what I am." "That's bull#?#! You're a White suburban punk. Just like me." "Yeah... But it -- still hurts!" (wheezes blood and mucous) "You're gonna be alright, Duke." [Duke coughs up more blood, louder and more disgustingly, until he dies] "...Maybe not." 5) "Good evening, Otto. This is Agent Rogers. I'm going to ask you a few questions. Since time is short, and you may lie, I'm going to have to torture you. But I just want you to know: it isn't personal." "Uh... this really isn't necessary. I'll tell you anything you want to know." "Good. Where is the Malibu?" "I don't know." [Commences the torture] 6) "Laugh all you want. But there's room to move as a fry chef, man. In two years, I could be manager! ...King! ... *GOD*!" 7) "Do you ever feel as if your mind had started to erode?" And, of course, the most famous line from this movie about John Wayne in a dress can't be written here without completely ruining it from all the censoring, but that's a big clue to what movie this is. Good luck, movie lovers! |
