He's a genius. He was designing computers when others in college can't/aren't. I'm sure the classwork is a breeze for him.

I still found it funny in light of that silly survey. Anyway back on topic: Latest update seems to be 7" tablet out October, 10" not till Q1 2012 (via Digitimes) plus there has been some speculation on parts (Quadcore Nvidia chip in the 10" model and current Tegra 2 for the 7"). |

That has been my assumption as well as hope for the 10" Amazon tablet. I don't care about the smaller tablet being less powerful as I would only be using to for simple tasks. I want a more robust tablet when hunting something larger. Plus I expect the Tegra 3 (aka Nvidia Quadcore) to be a lot more power efficient which will only help. What I really hope for is a much improved color gamut on the new tablets because of the better graphics ability in the chip and it's integrated video system. I remain hopeful for some daylight readability.

If Nvidia live up to their word the Tegra 3 (or Kal-El if you prefer) should be ~5x faster. I'm not sure about improved battery life though. It's still a 40 nm chip, with similar Cortex A9 cores (just now 4) and a 12 instead of (I believe?) the 8 core GPU in the Tegra 2. I'd actually expect battery life to take a hit if anything, but then in a 10" tablet you do have more space for a higher capacity batteries so it shouldn't be too bad in RL usage and maybe they have made some other improvements. |

But how will you relate it to what is good or bad? I suppose for us guys, "Microsoft" would be the worst... |

![]() I'm too pooped and tired to get into the potential increased efficiency of the new quadcore processors vs. the last gen dual cores. But beyond hardware there is load balancing and processing efficiency to consider as well as improved system firmware or even architecture specific to that module. I know there are early-production as well as various engineering samples of Tegra 3 out in the wild and I doubt we would be seeing new tablets that have shorter battery lives. So to me we will be seeing longer run times for a couple generations yet while the systems are still able to be fine-tuned. It's a neat time in PC tech again as these devices evolve. |

@joenunya: It's cool, there were days when the graphics card would affect colour. I remember when Matrox was the bees knees for 2D graphics. As to true colour reproduction I'm guessing your after it for something like photography? I know these tablets have become popular aids for the pros and amateurs alike.

As to Nvidia's SoC, I find it hard to believe they'd get much (if any) overall power improvements on the same fab process with a larger chip unless there are some real deficiencies in Tegra 2's power management, or those GPU cores are just a heck of a lot better... but then this report (rumour) does support a same or less than Tegra 2 view. |
