oops, I goofed the Galaxy note is by SAMSUNG so, never mind.
![]() that Galaxy Note looks wonderful but unfortunately its HTC who don't seem to sell to anyone other than wireless service providers. Meaning the thing will cost $600 to buy a new clean unlocked copy. I have a theory about this phenomenon but, meh, it really doesn't matter. But carrier lock-in for these things is why Apple has no competition in that category or size device. I would LOVE a device like that Galaxy Note but not for what it will cost unencumbered. In the mean time thanks for that link. It is now on my very short list. ![]() Last edited by joenunya; 09-01-2011 at 03:50 PM. |

Toronado, those are both offtopic, as this thread is specifically for eink notepads (eeePad, Entourage Edge, etc).

Anyway, the lines are getting blurred because there are devices like the Boogie Board and Asus EA800 which use LCD technology but are eInk-like. I'm seriously considering the new Sony PRS-T1 which is eInk and has a stylus for taking notes. Last edited by toronado; 09-01-2011 at 04:04 PM. |

I guess most people lump all those types of displays under "epaper" and not just eInk (the brand) displays. The boogie board I could see fitting in here, its just the Galaxy Note I felt didn't belong.
I am curious about the note taking ability on the T1 as well. If you could scribble notes, and not just tap an on screen keyboard, I'd definitely be interested. Last edited by Hellmark; 09-01-2011 at 05:32 PM. |

Checking out the BoogieBoard link was real interesting. On further examination, the model that is supposed to be able to save the screen as a PDF is coming out in November. Here is some info from their main website:
In addition to its save capabilities, the Boogie Board Rip tablet features a 9.5” writing surface (measured diagonally), a thin, durable and lightweight all-plastic construction, an integrated stylus holder, an erase lock button and rechargeable batteries that last more than a week between charges. An integrated software application expands the tablet’s functionality even further and opens the door for an increasingly robust user environment. The Boogie Board Rip tablet requires no power to generate or retain an image, and only a small amount to erase, save or upload stored files to a computer. http://www.prweb.com/releases/prweb2...web8760686.htm And how about a You Tube video demonstration If the price is right I will definitely have to order one. I just went through scanning boxes of handwritten notes and misc other papers (loose-leaf, wirebound, etc) from college. Now I can shred them so I don't need to store or move the boxes anymore, and I can conveniently access the documents from my computer desktop. If I had something like the BoogieBoard in college this could have saved me a lot of time and effort.
I'm still not sold on the light writing on dark background screen used in the BoogieBoard though. I'm more inclined to go for something like the Sony T1. |

I am really interested to see how the handwriting on the T1 is. If the T1 had a 9" screen, or something larger, I'd definitely want one. Right now, with the 6", its kinda "ooh, that'd be nice"

Even 9" is smaller than what I want. But if the new Sony is good, I'll probably get it anyway (better than having nothing at all) and just wait and hope for something bigger in the future.

Kyocera Echo and Sony Tablet P (aka S2) are approaching what you are talking about, though with LCD and visible seams between the folding screens. ![]() Last edited by toronado; 09-14-2011 at 06:34 AM. |

Yes, it is that middle part I would like to disappear. Holding it like in the picture you can read it like a book, joining the pages together you can turn it around and have a decent screen to write on. I wouldn't be surprised to see one in about five years.

I really need something small enough to fit in my pocket (6 inch or so) that can have multiple short notes like to-do lists, and grocery lists. I also need something larger for work that can be mounted on a wall with a magnet or something for passing on messages to co-workers. That one doesn't need memory or mulitple notes. Both using a stylus not a keyboard. And cheap.

I'd prefer an A4 sized screen, but some of my paper notebooks are in the 9-10" diagonal size, so that is doable.
