"Back" might be a little strong.

They tweeted a couple of times yesterday, one of which indicated that they were not going to be able to make their $99 price point as a "low tech vision" was turning into a "high tech reality."

I also actually believe they're honestly trying to make a product. But like anyone else "trying to make a product" (which can be about as far as they have got), whether or not they'll actually come up with anything is yet to be seen.

I also believe they have no idea how to communicate that to the public.

Noteslate is not real. its a design project by a design student, it is not real and cannot be real. as i have said in earlier posts the display he pretends to use doesnt exist.

The ThinkPad Tablet, which will specifically run Android Honeycomb 3.1, will support active N-trig pen input. Users will be able to navigate the device with the pen as a cursor and the on-board note-taking app, Notes Mobile, will support handwriting recognition, two features not found on the other Android pen tablets, the EVO View 4G and HTC Flyer.

Thanks toronado, it sounds good; but it also sounds spendy! I'll be interested in seeing the price.

Also, I noticed that it has a micro SIM slot, does that mean it's 3G/4G option is GSM only?

Verizon 4G LTE uses SIMs too. Although each LTE network unfortunately runs on a different frequency, so they are not cross compatible.

I especially like the handwriting to text conversion, assuming it works at least as well as my old PalmOS PDA's did in the before-time.

Have added that one to the top of my watch list for this fall. A pleasant surprise for a Sunday AM.

I almost feel I should not post about the Lenovo here since the word "eInk" appears in the title of this thread. However, some of us are interested anyway. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new Sony eReader turns out to be as well. August may turn out to be an interesting month.

I don't really like the 10" form factor. It seems like sort of a useless size. Not big enough for real documents, but too big to carry unless you carry a bag, and then you might as well carry a real computer. I'd rather have a 7" LCD device, and a larger (12" or larger) eInk device.

Yeah, I often wonder how long it will take for manufacturers to produce a device that has the functionality we already had years ago.

So, I did a comparison annotating pdfs on my Entourage Edge, Asus Eee Note and Nokia N810. I rewrote the same annotations 3 times (math solutions) using the same initial PDF on all 3 devices.

In case anyone is interested, here are the results:

https://www.strongspace.com/rainsber...ercentEDGE.pdf
https://www.strongspace.com/rainsber...entEEEnote.pdf
https://www.strongspace.com/rainsber...tNokiaN810.pdf

Note re: file format - the Asus Eee note only allows you to take snapshots of each page, which are then graphic files. It might look better if I could get the graphic files directly off the device (which I can't without synching or getting a browser not to crash during upload). What I've done is inserted each of these graphics into a page in a Note, which can then be uploaded to evernote, which makes yet another graphic file, and then I can print as a pdf. Both other devices allow exporting as pdf, annotations intact.

Note re: zoom level - only the Nokia allows me to zoom in to annotate, then zoom back out. So, I can make finer annotations because of zoom level. But, the Nokia is also the only touch device (not wacom), so although I can make finer notations, I must do so without otherwise touching the screen.

What about something like the digimemo notepad. Write on paper, and capture to your computer?

It may be a compromise with current technology not up to snuff yet...

I think people who really do just take notes and want them saved as they were scribbled down in a meeting might like it. (It doesn't really save any paper, though!) So if you care more about capturing the words vs. the way the words look, it's something to consider.

Although maybe you can't tell with my messy notes from the previous post, it wouldn't work for me because I'm constantly erasing and rewriting to get things to fit visually where I want them. Or, if a letter isn't formed perfectly, I want the option to go back, erase and rewrite. I read through the reviews and I didn't see anyone comment about this, just that software can do som editing it after the fact. (But the software can't "rewrite" a word I don't like the look of.)

Entourage Edges available on eBay right now for $169! (Full sized, not pocket edges.)

This is about as good a price as I've ever seen, and maybe low enough for people to buy even though it's a discontinued product.
