In the mornings we would watch Captain Kangaroo, and in the afternoon we would watch a local show called the Popeye Club with Officer Don.

When I was a kid bread came in wax paper wrappers. I thought I'd be clever a couple of years ago and bought drinks at the supermarket before going to the theatre to save money. My wife and I both put the drinks on the floor because they didn't have holders on the arm rest and because the floor was sloped, they fell over and rolled under everyone's feet 15 rows ahead never to be seen again.

Well to be accurate I don't know if that would be the case with all theaters but my local one has a sign saying those bringing in food from outside may be shown out of the theater if caught. Of course I rarely go now days either as it's also too expensive even on the matinee now.

Does anyone remember those miniature child-size loaves of bread you could buy in the 50s?

Tom, I don't remember them, but I do remember when ca. 1961 Sunbeam experimented in my area (Seattle) with round loaves, to better fit the round slices of baloney and salami.

I remember in primary school one of the local bakers would bring around chicken or bunny shaped rolls (one for each child) just before Easter.

I also remember it was a classmate's birthday he/she was allowed to bring unhealthy treats to hand out in class. Nowadays most schools only allow healthy treats.

I remember in 1964 when the priest in charge of the altar boys gave everyone for Christmas a pocket knife for the grammar school kids and a cigarette lighter for the high school kids. A lot of mothers were upset about that! I still have my cigarette lighter, and I've never smoked cigarettes!

I remember those! When I was given a breadmaker some years ago, I flashed on the memory of those little loaves! I used to think they were made just for us kids to get us to eat more of their product. God knows the taste wouldn't do it! I remember it was rather like eating a pillow...

I'm surprised I could find no pictures of them online. I remember the taste being the same as the regular bread, only in small loaves with slices about ¼ the size of the grown-up's bread. It made you feel all grown up buying a loaf.

I remember that the regular bread also tasted like a pillow. Even as a kid I was a bread snob.
I couldn't stand sandwiches made from white bread.

I don't remember it being sliced. I remember little loaves of "Silvercup" white bread, but unsliced. That was the only part of it that I liked. I had never seen bread unsliced before.

I'm not positive they were sliced either. They may not have been. It was a long time ago.

I remember going to the movies in New Zealand in the early '60s, and listening to the sound of Jaffas rolling down the sloping floor. People bought Jaffas, but seldom ate them due to the rumour that they were swept up and re-packaged at the end of the performance. They were purely for rolling.

I remember picking up the uncut loaf from the bakers in South Africa, with a little strip of paper round its middle to hold it, and picking a hole in the end crust and eating the warm, soft innners.
